“BUT THEY SAID THEY WERE DOING FINE!” 😳

You've asked about school… you've checked they're doing their homework… you've even asked if they need any help with Maths.

And every time, the answer's been the same…

“It's fine, Mum.”

Then the test results come home. And suddenly, things aren't quite as fine as you thought!

The trouble is, children don't always realise how much they've missed until they're sitting in front of a test paper and haven't got a clue where to start. And by then, the class has moved on to the next topic.

So how do you help them catch up without piling on even more pressure?

That's where Discovery Tutors can help. Our fully qualified teachers work with Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) students to identify those missing bits of knowledge, strengthen their understanding and help them make real progress.

Because there's a big difference between getting through a Maths lesson and actually understanding what's being taught. And wouldn't you rather discover those gaps now than when GCSE exams are just around the corner?

Sometimes the right support can make a much bigger difference than you might expect.

Call Di on 07425 171970 or email [email protected] for more information or you can also find out more at www.discoverytutors.co.uk.

Is “un moment, s’il vous plaît” doing far too much work on your French holidays? 😄

You know that moment when someone speaks to you in French and your brain suddenly decides it has absolutely nothing to contribute?

You know you’ve learned some French, you can recognise words, and you can probably read more than you think. But actually getting the sentence out can feel like a completely different matter.

That’s where our French Conversation Group in Palgrave comes in.

It’s relaxed, friendly and all about helping you use the French you already have, build on it and feel more comfortable actually speaking it. Plus, we have fun whilst we learn.

There are absolutely no tests and definitely no pressure. We are not expecting anyone to be fluent before you walk through the door, in fact we’d prefer it if you weren’t! 😄

So really, why wouldn’t you give it a try?

Your first session is completely FREE, so you can come along, meet the group and see if it’s for you. After that, sessions are available from £10.

You might still need the occasional “un moment, s’il vous plaît”… but hopefully not quite so often. 😄

Places do need to be booked in advance, so contact Di to reserve your free taster session on 07425 171970 or email [email protected].

Love English? Still love teaching?

Maybe you’ve stepped away from full-time teaching but still miss that moment when a student suddenly gets it.

Maybe you’re working part-time and would enjoy a few extra hours doing the bit you actually love... helping young people build confidence, understand what once felt impossible and start believing they can do it.

Discovery Tutors is looking for a GCSE English Tutor to join their incredible team at Palgrave Community Centre.

We’re looking for someone experienced, approachable and able to explain English in a way that makes sense to the individual student in front of them.

This could suit a recently retired teacher, a part-time teacher, or an experienced educator who still has plenty to give but doesn’t necessarily want the full classroom timetable anymore.
Sessions run between 4–7pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with flexibility around which evenings you work.

If you love English, enjoy working with young people and still get a buzz from helping someone realise they’re more capable than they thought, we’d love to hear from you.

Please call Di on 07425 171970 for more information or email her on [email protected]

And if this isn't for you but someone immediately popped into your head while reading this, please send it their way. 😊

Sometimes a student doesn’t need more pressure. They need the right support.

We’ll call him Peter. 😊

When Peter first came to us, he was capable, but his confidence in English and Maths had taken a knock. There were gaps in his understanding, and the more he struggled with certain topics, the more he started to doubt himself.

With regular tuition, things began to shift. Topics started to make more sense. He became more willing to have a go. His confidence grew and, instead of immediately thinking “I can’t do this,” he started approaching his work very differently. And that showed in his progress too.

That’s what good tuition should do.

It's not just simply helping a student get through another worksheet, but help them understand how to succeed - by strengthening the foundations, building confidence and giving them strategies they can actually use.

At Discovery Tutors, we offer Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 GCSE English & Maths tuition with fully qualified teachers at Palgrave Community Centre.

If your son or daughter has the ability but something just isn’t quite clicking, get in touch. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience that can really help your child grow in confidence and ability.

Sometimes the right support can make a much bigger difference than you might expect.

Call Di on 07425 171970 or email [email protected]. You can also find out more at www.discoverytutors.co.uk.

IF YOUR TEENAGER WOULD RATHER CLEAN THEIR ROOM THAN ANALYSE A POEM… WE MAY NEED TO TALK. 😆

English can be a funny old subject.

They can read perfectly well. They can argue their point for twenty minutes when you ask them to put their phone down. They can explain every detail of a Netflix series you’ve never heard of…

…but ask them what the writer really meant by a particular sentence and suddenly you’re met with, “I dunno.”

For some students, English at Key Stage 3 or GCSE starts to feel like a strange world of quotations, persuasive writing, poetry, language techniques and questions where they’re convinced the examiner wants them to read minds. And that’s where the right support can make such a difference.

At Discovery Tutors, our qualified English teachers help students make sense of what they’re being asked, develop stronger answers and build the confidence to tackle English without that immediate feeling of dread. And sometimes it isn’t that they can’t do English, it’s just they need someone to explain it in a way that finally clicks.

We currently have tuition available for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) English at Palgrave Community Centre, so if your son or daughter could do with some extra support, get in touch and we can have a conversation about what they need.

I knew my son was struggling with Maths. What I didn’t realise was how much it was changing the way he saw himself. 😦

At first it was just the odd bit of homework he couldn’t do. Then came the frustration, the avoiding it, the “I don’t know” before he’d even really tried. Eventually, “Maths is hard” became “I’m just rubbish at Maths.” And that was the bit that worried me most.
Because when a child starts believing they can’t do something, it doesn’t stay neatly inside one Maths lesson. They stop putting their hand up. They stop asking when they don’t understand. They start expecting to get it wrong.

So instead of telling him to try harder, I’d want to find out where it had actually stopped making sense. And that’s exactly what Discovery Tutors helps students do.

Our Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) Maths tuition gives students the chance to go back, fill in the gaps and have things explained in a way that makes sense to them, with support from fully qualified teachers at Palgrave Community Centre.

And the payoff isn’t simply a better mark on the next test. It’s seeing them attempt the question instead of pushing the book away. Hearing “I think I know how to do this” instead of “I can’t”. Watching their confidence start to come back because Maths no longer feels like something they’re destined to fail at.

If you’re already seeing those little signs with your son or daughter, don’t wait for them to fall further behind before doing something about it. Give Discovery Tutors a call and let’s see where we can help.

Do you speak French… or are you surviving on Franglais? 😄

You know the sort. A bit of French, a bit of English, plenty of pointing… and a hopeful smile when you’re not entirely sure what was just said back to you.

It might get you through ordering dinner or asking for directions, but wouldn’t it be lovely to actually feel confident having a proper conversation?

That’s exactly what our French Conversation Group in Palgrave is all about. It’s a fun, relaxed, friendly place to practise the French you already know, learn a little more and, most importantly, get comfortable actually speaking it.

There are no tests, no red pens and nobody expects perfect grammar. It’s simply just real conversation, plenty of encouragement and the chance to stop translating every sentence in your head before you dare say it out loud.

And if you’re wondering whether it’s for you, come and try it. Your first session is completely FREE, with sessions after that available from £10.

So if Franglais has been doing the heavy lifting for long enough, maybe it’s time to give your French a proper chance.

Places do need to be booked so we know how many people to expect, so contact Di to reserve your free taster session on 07425 171970 or email [email protected].

Because holidays are much more fun when you can say more than “deux vins, s’il vous plaît.” 😄

September doesn’t magically fix the bits they didn’t understand last year. 😕

A new timetable, new books and a fresh start can feel positive… but if your child finished last term struggling with English or Maths, those gaps have probably come back to school with them.

And once Key Stage 3 or GCSE work starts moving at pace, “I’m a bit stuck” can quickly turn into “I just can't do this.” And that’s the bit we want to get ahead of.

At Discovery Tutors, we’re welcoming students for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) English and Maths tuition, with fully qualified teachers who know how to spot where the difficulty really is and help students build their confidence as well as their skills.

Because sometimes it isn’t that they “can’t do Maths” or they’re “bad at English”. Sometimes they’ve missed one piece of the puzzle… and everything after that has felt harder than it needed to.

Sessions are available at Palgrave Community Centre, Diss.

If you already know your child is starting this school year with a wobble, don’t wait for the first parents’ evening to confirm it.

Get in touch with Discovery Tutors to find out about September availability. Contact Di for more information on 07425 171970 or email [email protected]. You can also find out more at www.discoverytutors.co.uk.
