Skylarks Forest School

Skylarks Forest School A pure Forest School based at Hampers Wood, Lyme Park, by kind permission of The National Trust.

Skylarks is a Forest School for Early Years Children, Home Educated Children, schools, nurseries, and community groups. We are based in Hampers Wood, National Trust Lyme, by kind permission of the NT. It is run by Jennie, Eleanor and Helen who are all qualified Forest School Leaders and a mix of experienced primary school teachers and teaching assistants in Stockport. We run in term time and our s

essions at Lyme are on Thursdays and Fridays between 10 - 2pm. Hampers Wood is a private, deciduous woodland within the Lyme Estate. It is a secure, natural environment for your child to explore with its own natural water source. We run pure forest school sessions where the children are encouraged to follow their interests and use the woodland in a very natural, organic way. We use traditional woodland tools for green woodworking, and natural materials to create and make. One quarter of our income goes directly back into conservation on the estate. Forest School is an inspirational process which offers children and adults hands-on experiences in a woodland setting. It provides opportunities to achieve, take risks, develop confidence, work as a team and problem solve in a natural environment. Through high quality outdoor provision we aim to connect people of all ages with themselves, each other and the natural world. For bookings and more info:

Today was the second of our reunion sessions and what a pleasure it was. We welcomed many old friends back to the wood for a day filled with whittling, creating, sparks, marshmallows, bubbles and games.

Our families slotted back into the rhythm of the day as if they had never been away. It was so lovely to catch up and reminisce with you all and see how much the children have grown. We're looking forward to next year already!

Our yearly reunion sessions kicked off in creative style today as we welcomed skylarks who have fledged the nest back up to site for the day. It was absolutely fabulous to see you all again ~ we just about recognised some!
๐Ÿ’š
Once we had reconnected with eachother the group turned their hands to some terrific tool use and left site with a multitude of marvelous makes to remind them of their time in the woods.
๐Ÿ’š
As ever, thank you for your company today. It was lovely to see you all, recall memories from times gone by, and make some new ones. Hope the start of the school term is smooth for all your very mature skylarks!

What a day to end our year and say goodbye to all of our early years skylarks fledging to school in September! The sun shone whilst our skylarks made, created, played, bubbled, zipped through the trees, celebrated a birthday and shared time together as a group for one last time.
๐Ÿ’š
We canโ€™t thank you enough for your company over the last few years, you have all been a pleasure to spend time with and have made the group such a beautiful community to be a part of. Huge thanks for all the cards, gifts, lunchtime treats and end of day treats shared. They were all greatfully received!
๐Ÿ’š
We wish your young skylarks the very best of woodland wishes for their transitions to school, and very much hope you can join us again for some of our reunion sessions in the future. Enjoy the summer break and weโ€™ll see some of you back in the woods at Lyme Park NT in September! J&H xx

Our Thursday early years crew rounded the year off in style today with a beautifully chilled session.

We made jingle bottle top shakers, summer crowns and many more marvelous creations.
We bashed, bubbled, swung and scrambled.

We gathered for a fire free lunch to rest and refuel before we were off again with a game of Go Find It. We found thick, small, green and light amongst many more.

Thank you for a perfect day Thursday crew. Have a wonderful summer and we'll see you back beneath the trees in September.

We have some places available on our Friday group from September. Please email [email protected] for details

If youโ€™d like to join a fabulous Forest School group on Fridays from September with your early years child please get in touch. We have a handful of places popping up in September due to some of our current group fledging to school.

The sessions take place on alternate Fridays in term time, 10am - 2pm, in a beautiful, private woodland on the Lyme estate. We gather for lunch around the fire and there are endless opportunities for child led play throughout the day.

Please drop us an email at [email protected] for more info and bookings.

Our Friday home ed crew put all the tools to good use today to make and create. A prickle of hedgehogs was brought to life as well as chairs, cars and medals to take home. No fire for lunch today for obvious reasons! But we gathered to eat and then giggled our way through an afternoon of water games to keep us cool under the shade of the tree canopy.
๐Ÿ’š
Today was also the last day for one of our long standing skylarks families who have been with us for 6 years. Itโ€™s come as a bit of surprise for us and them, but she has decided to give school a try from September.
๐Ÿ’š
She will be greatly missed by the group for her sense of fun, her kind, caring nature and some unforgettable songs and performances over the years! Itโ€™s been an absolute pleasure to be such a big part of her childhood development and the family will be greatly missed. We wish her every success for September and she takes with her the very best of woodland wishes for her new adventures.

โ˜€๏ธ It was another hot hot day in the woods for our Thursday home ed groups final session of the term.

๐Ÿ’ฆ We enjoyed some cool crafting projects weaving willow cornucopia, painted faces, watched the butterflies and came up with some fun new water games to keep everyone cool.

๐Ÿ‰ We had a special guest appearance from one of our elders. Although his cooking workshop had to be postponed due to the lack of a fire, we enjoyed iced drinks and cool fruit (thanks mum!)

๐ŸŒณ We hope you all have a fantastic summer break and we'll see you back in the woods in September.

Meadowbank Primary School joined us on site today for the postponed second half of their reception visit.

They made marvelous medals, created in the mud kitchen, swung, bounced, balanced and chilled between the trees.

As always they were an absolute pleasure to have on site. Looking forward to seeing you next year already!

It's got to that time of year when our early years Skylarks start to fledge to school and one by one they leave the woods.

Today it was the turn of a young lady who's been with us for three years and has been a lovely member of the group. She celebrated with some tool work, toasted marshmallows on the lunchtime fire and shared lunchtime treats.

We sent her off with the obligatory skylarks graduation trophy, a wolf howl and one last go on the swing. The warmest of woodland wishes goes with her on her new adventures at school, and hopefully we'll see her on an inset day before too long.

The pictures tell the story of what else we got up to today!

Today was the final session for one of our long standing skylarks who has been with us since October 2021! Clay creations were the order of the day as well some hapa zome and whittling.
๐Ÿ’š
As lunchtime rolled around we shared food and time in the long circle, then toasted many marshmallows brought in by our fledgling.
๐Ÿ’š
We celebrated a final goodbye in the log circle to end the day with the obligatory skylarks trophy and a big wolf howl! The warmest of woodland wishes goes with her as she fledges the nest, and hopefully sheโ€™ll pay us a visit in the future at one of our reunion sessions!
