Latin Groove Dance

Latin Groove Dance “I remember that when I was studying: Dancing is the best medicine. The body is made to move and the soul to shine; your mood changes when you dance.”

Here is something to practice at home. This video walks through how to do a full turn in salsa, follow along at your own pace and give it a try.

Do not worry if it takes a few goes to get it feeling right. That is all part of the process. The more you practice away from class, the more it starts to feel natural on the dancefloor.

Give this a like and save it for future references.

Another look at what has been happening on the dancefloor at Latin Dance Groove. New faces joining, familiar steps being reinforced, and the pivot starting to take shape.

It is coming together nicely and there is plenty more to come. The door is always open if you have been thinking about joining. 🕺

It was great to see some new faces at last week's Latin Dance Groove session. The class took some time to revisit what has been covered over the past few lessons before moving on to something new, the pivot.

The pivot is all about adding a little more dynamism to the way the body moves on the dancefloor. Paired with the basic steps already being built up, it opens the door to a much more fluid and expressive style of dancing.

Whether you are just joining or have been there from the start, there is always something to work on and always room to grow. 🕺

This is what it looks like when it all starts coming together. Latin Dance Groove is open to everyone, wherever you are in your journey.

Everyone starts somewhere. Latin Dance Groove welcomes anyone who has ever wanted to learn salsa, no experience needed, no pressure, just good music and good people.

A little later than planned, but here is a recap of what was covered in the very first session for anyone who attended or is curious about what the classes involve.

THE FOUNDATION: 1-2-3-4
Everything in salsa is built around the rhythm. In the first lesson, the teacher walked the group through how every movement connects back to that core count. Getting comfortable with it is the foundation everything else is built on.

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE
One of the things that stood out from the session was the reminder that whatever point in life you are at, you can always start dancing and you can always improve. That applies to everyone in the room, regardless of experience.

CUBAN SALSA & ITS MANY STYLES
The class also explored how Cuban salsa is not a single fixed style. It has given rise to many regional variations across Latin America. One example the teacher highlighted was the Caleña style from Colombia, which carries its own distinct character while sharing the same roots.

Two sessions in and the group is already coming along well. If you have not joined yet, it is never too late to start.

A belated but very sincere thank you to everyone who came along to the first two Latin Dance Groove salsa lessons.

It has been wonderful to see so many of you show up, give it a go, and come back for more. The group has made both sessions a really enjoyable experience.

Feel free to share with anyone who might enjoy joining the group.

Looking forward to seeing you all continue to grow on the dancefloor.

Meet your teacher!

“My name is Armando, I'm from Cuba, I studied dance, I was a dancer for 20 years, and a dance teacher for 15 years.

I would like to teach various Latin rhythms, especially those from my country, starting with Cuban Salsa and its different steps at different levels.”
