Another Wednesday is upon us and you know what that means..... WORD OF THE WEEK.
This weeks word is 'Percentile'. It's a word you'll hear often, especially in the first few weeks of baby's life, but what does it mean? Percentile is how health professionals assess how your little one is growing in comparison to other babies of the same age.
A higher percentage (percentile) means a bigger or taller child and vice versa.
It can be easy to get caught up in the numbers but don't fret - a healthy child can fall anywhere the chart. Whether in the 15th or 95th, what is more important is that your baby is growing at a consistent rate over time and that both your baby's height and weight percentiles are of similar proportions.

This is a saying of mine that I use regularly with the young people I work with and it couldn’t be truer for your baby.
With question after question about what your little one is and isn’t doing yet from everyone you cross paths with it important that you learn to DROWN OUT THE NOISE
“Can he roll over?”
“Is she sleeping through the night yet?”
“Why isn’t my baby crawling yet?”
DROWN OUT THE NOISE
That mum at stay and play who comments on your baby’s unwillingness to remain in tummy time because her (ever so slightly) younger baby can assume the cobra position?? DROWN IT OUT!
Or the niggling feeling you get after leaving a check up that you’re not doing enough, after being questioned as if you’re hiding state secrets and given “suggestions” on all the things you “could” be doing because baby isn’t “quite yet” where they “should” be on some curve???
DROWN IT OUT!
When was the last time you were told to “mind their head” while cradling a teenager because they hadn’t figured out how to hold their head up yet?…How about a fully grown adult bum shuffling down the road because they haven’t figured out walking?
Unless your baby has an underlying health issue I PROMISE you they will figure it out. All your baby needs is time, patience, practice and lots of encouragement and the reaching, rolling, crawling, walking (not necessarily in that order) and all that other good stuff, will all come… their ‘yet’ is just around the corner.
If your little one isn't quite "there" yet, then why not sign up to a nurse led baby brains class where you'll be guided through a variety of activities to help your little one meet their developmental milestones.

It’s “WORD WEDNESDAY” and that means another language from the world of parenting.
Today’s word is brought to you by the Ferber method. Ferber method is a method of sleep training, felt to be gentler than the full on cry it out method, with the Ferber method baby is left for a predetermined amount of time to cry before reentering their space and offering some form of comfort/settling; as opposed to the cry it out method where baby is left to cry until they fall asleep regardless of how long it takes.
There are numerous approaches to try when it comes to a sleep routine, be sure to look around and fine one that work for your current lifestyle and comfort levels. Be kind to yourself and flexible in your approach and remember you know your baby best so do what feels right and work for you.
But if you want to know more you can find out more about the Ferber method here https://www.whattoexpect.com/first-year/sleep/ferber-method-sleep-training/

HAPPY MONDAY!!!
A new week brings with it new opportunities for learning. There is nothing like the sense of wonder in children. If you're lucky enough to have a little one in your life you'll know just how wholesome their innocence and curiosity is. Often referred to as 'little sponges' learning comes easy to them, but when everything is new and unknown, how do you stop your little one from becoming overwhelmed, preserve their curiosity and keep them motivated to learn?
Try these 5 tips to encourage your little one's sense of wonder.
A sense of wonder/motivation to learn early on in life will contribute to your child's literacy and numeracy skills as they grow, which are essential skills for learning and academic development.
Sign up for your baby brains class to be guided through evidenced based activities and learn the skills and tools needed to support your little one's development from birth through to 12 months; setting them up for life long success.
The new term of baby brains starts on 7th SEPTEMBER - book your space here www.bookwhen.com/babybrains
