Today I’ve been testing out some fine motor activities on my eldest son, Albie. He used tweezers to pick up and transport pom poms, made a wiggly snake from play dough and used scissors to chop it up.
Fine motor skills refer to the coordination between your child's small muscles, like those in their hands, wrists, and fingers in coordination with their eyes. Fine motor skills involve the small muscles of the body that enable such functions as writing, grasping small objects, and fastening clothing. They also involve strength, fine motor control, and dexterity.
These skills are important in most school activities as well as in life in general. Weaknesses in fine motor skills can affect a child's ability to eat, write legibly, use a computer, as well as turn pages in a book and perform personal care tasks, such as dressing and grooming.

After a manic few weeks of going back to work and trying to spin many plates, I’ve made the decision to pause my tutoring sessions for now. My children are still very young and need me to be there for them, so my family must come first. I’m hoping once I find the rhythm of work and Mum life, I will be able to start up some sessions again. Thank you to the families I have worked with for being so understanding. X

Over the past week or so, it’s likely your child has been exposed to news stories about the heartbreaking situation in Afghanistan - this has possibly left them confused, intrigued or maybe with unanswered questions. Whilst many wish that their children didn’t have to know about such trauma, the facts are that it’s real and very present. Stories can facilitate dialogue and promote healthy communication on this difficult topic. Knowing what it means to be a refugee can help to foster empathy and understanding and even inspire young readers to take action and ensure safe and welcoming environments within their own communities.

A fantastic session this morning with a child who is feeling a little overwhelmed with their emotions at the moment. Moving house and school are big events for such small children, so it’s really important we recognise and accept their feelings. Mental health and well-being will always come first 🧠 ⭐️

A super quick activity to practise number formation. Circle the numbers that have been written the wrong way round! 🪄

So proud of my student’s writing this morning ✍️
We focused on orally rehearsing and drafting the writing on a whiteboard before putting pen to paper.
Great work ⭐️

I have just completed my hundredth tutoring session since starting up earlier this year 🤩
Thank you to the wonderful children I work with for making my job so easy and enjoyable!
And a big thank you to everyone who has shared my posts, recommended me or left a review. Your support really means the world to me.
I am back to work in September, but will be continuing to tutor, so here’s to the next 100 sessions 😀

🚨 SLOTS AVAILABLE 🚨
Due to a last minute cancellation, I now have some summer holiday slots available for tutoring. These can either be via zoom or face to face at my home in Didcot. Holiday sessions are ideal for boosting confidence in specific areas of a subject or for just keeping the brain ticking over whilst away from school.
Please message me to find out more! 😃
