Take a look at the community paper quilt on display this month at our Pioneer Higher Skills Centre in Dewsbury.
This was created by the people of Dewsbury who brought their favourite fabric items to 'The Shoddy Factory' engagement sessions with artist Kerry Lemon a few weeks ago.

In collaboration with Dewsbury Creative Town, BEAM and Woven in Kirklees, we’re proud to present The Shoddy Factory, a huge community paper quilt woven together by our local community, which will be exhibited in the Starbucks Café at our Pioneer Higher Skills Centre until Monday 28 February.
It was a pleasure to celebrate the official opening of our new Pioneer Higher Skills Centre in Dewsbury last month alongside the amazing people that contributed to the success of the centre’s launch, with notable attendees including Councillor Nigel Patrick (Mayor of Kirklees) and Tracy Brabin (Mayor of West Yorkshire). Andrew Warburton from local hand tufting company, Area Rugs and Carpets Ltd., was commissioned to create ‘Sculpting a Continent’ as a temporary installation for the Dewsbury Creative Town Arts Programme.
The textile sculpture was designed to draw attention to the increase of colossal icebergs, some the size of New York, breaking off from Antarctica as a result of climate change.
We have agreed to give this textile sculpture a permanent home at the Pioneer Higher Skills Centre to showcase this locally made creative practice with locally sourced material from around the Heavy Woollen District of Dewsbury.
