Food is never just food in Italy. 🍝🇮🇹

For us, a meal is a meeting place.
It is where we share our stories, solve our problems and show love.

When an Italian asks, “Hai mangiato?” (Have you eaten?), they are really saying, “I care about you”.
Here is why the table ( la tavola )matters so much:

Connection: Sunday lunch can last for hours because being together is the main goal.

Memory: Every dish tells a story of our hometown, our parents, and our nonne (grandmothers).

Identity: Certain recipes are sacred.
Changing a core ingredient can feel like changing history.

But there is also…

Creativity: Constantly coming up with new combinations of ingredients or variations of classic dishes to share with family and friends.

Food keeps our roots alive, no matter where we study or live.

Isola nel cuore, ovunque nel mondo. 🌊⛰️

There is something truly unique about being Sardinian. It’s not just a place on a map, it’s an unbreakable bond with ancient traditions, rugged mountains, crystal clear sea and a culture that runs deep in our blood.

No matter where life or studies take us across Italy and beyond, that sense of radici (roots) never fades.

You can take a Sardinian away from the island,
but you can never take the island away from a Sardinian!

🍕🌅 La dolce vita in Sardegna! 🌊✨

Nothing beats the ultimate Italian summer combo: warm sand between your toes, a freshly baked pizza, and the breathtaking colors of a Sardinian sunset on a beautiful bay.

There’s something magical about watching the sky turn shades of pink and gold, sharing a slice with your favorite people right by the Mediterranean waves. No filters needed when nature and pizza look this good! 🤌🇮🇹

What is your favourite place for an evening picnic?

There are two types of people at the seaside:

Those who head home at 12.30 pm for a full lunch.

The Sardinians. 🗿☀️

For us, the beach isn’t just a place to visit,
it’s a temporary home.

We arrive early in the morning (or at the latest by 11.00, when it’s still quiet), set up camp with the whole clan and don’t budge from there until sunset.

And lunch? Forget light meals or gourmet salads. The real star of the day is this: the sandwich under the parasol. 🥪🏖️

Strictly wrapped in foil, a bit squashed, but with that unique flavour where the bread meets the sea breeze (and inevitably that tiny grain of crunchy sand that adds character).

Eating a sandwich overlooking the sea, with your feet in the sand and the shadow of the parasol swaying, is a state of mind.
It’s the very definition of happiness. ❤️🌊

👇 Which team are you on?
🥓 Team Campidanese-style sandwich / mozzarella and tomatoe / Ham and cheese

🍉 Team “Let’s add two slices of watermelon from the cool bag too”

Tag the person you’re sharing your squashed sandwich with on the beach! 👇

🎬 The charm of outdoor cinema in Cagliari: a summer ritual 🌟

What could be better than a summer’s evening,
a big screen under the stars and the magic of watching a film together?

In Cagliari, open-air cinema is a real tradition.
Whether you’re surrounded by the greenery of Monteclaro Park or in the charming atmosphere of Piazza San Cosimo, watching a film under the Cagliari sky with flamingos overhead (fingers crossed for a gentle breeze!) is an unforgettable experience.

Why is it the perfect way to practise Italian? 🇮🇹

-The relaxed atmosphere: Watching a film in the open air makes learning feel more effortless. If you miss a word, no problem: the images and the setting will help you understand the context.

-‘Real-life’ Italian: The best bit comes at the end of the screening. Listening to the other audience members’ spontaneous comments in Italian as you leave the arena is a fantastic lesson in living, colloquial language.

-Cinema vocabulary: It’s the ideal opportunity to use words like ‘regista’ (director), ‘trama’ (plot), ‘colonna sonora’ (soundtrack) and ‘colpo di scena’ (plot twist).

Have you ever been to the outdoor cinema in Monteclaro or Piazza San Cosimo?
What was the last film you saw in Italian?

🎤 What’s it really like to learn Italian? 🇮🇹

We asked a few of our students some questions to find out about the joys and challenges of this journey 👣.

Every learner has a unique story, but they all share a passion for this wonderful language and know that learning a new language helps to see the world through different eyes. 🌍

We will continue to post these student stories throughout the summer and we hope that their passion and enthusiasm can motivate you to start your own Italian language journey.

Thank you to all the students who shared a little bit of their journey with us!💚🤍❤️

👉 What about you? Have you ever studied a foreign language? Do you recognise yourself in their words? Tell us about your experience in the comments!
