It is my experience as an Irish language tutor that learners often wear the Cúpla Focal badge even when they have progressed beyond that level as they don't feel ready or confident yet to wear the Silver Fáinne. There is quite a gap between Cúpla Focal and Silver Fáinne. When one of my students suggested that it would be a good idea to have a way of showing the gradual progression from the Cúpla Focal to the Silver Fáinne, these badges were designed to address the issue.

As each stage of the Céimeanna Comhrá course is completed, learners can let others know their current ability by wearing the relevant badge while on their way to achieving the Fáinne Airgid and eventually the Fáinne Óir.
