My customers Danielle and Alex trusted me to teach their son Jack canine first aid. He was there on the very first childrenā€™s course that I taught, and has been my biggest supporter ever since. We brought Kaiser home in 2013.. Itā€™s still hard to talk about him. He was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma and we sadly lost him in 2024. Heā€™s the reason the vet character in the book is named Kai. I wanted him in the story forever. And then - recently - someone very special arrived. Meet Kali. Sheā€™s our Doberman puppy. And sheā€™s Kaiserā€™s great-niece. The same bloodline. The same energy. Kaiserā€™s legacy isnā€™t over.

Age 4. Miniature poodle. Unofficial manager of Raw Revolution Derby.

She greets every customer, supervises every delivery, and sits in the exact spot where she can see both the door and the treat shelf at the same time.

Everyone, meet AJ.

Miniature poodle. Age 6. My actual dog.

Hobbies include skateboarding, jumping into freezers, and being completely ungovernable.

He lives with a canine first aid instructor and has learned absolutely nothing from it.

He is also, genuinely, one of the best things in my life. Even when heā€™s a menace. Especially when heā€™s a menace.
