Today the children became little chefs and made their very own wrap pizzas! 🍕

First, they used spoons to spread the tomato sauce across their wraps, practising early maths skills as we talked about how much sauce was needed and ensuring it was spread evenly. They then worked on their fine motor skills, carefully using pincer grips to pick up and sprinkle the cheese onto their pizzas.

Next came the most exciting part – choosing and adding their toppings! We had ham, onion, extra cheese and, dare I say it… pineapple! 🍍😄

Once they were ready, the pizzas went into the oven and were enjoyed as a delicious afternoon snack.

The children showed fantastic independence throughout the activity and demonstrated brilliant concentration and focus from start to finish. Well done, little chefs! 👏✨

🌿🍃 We have had a lovely little forest school session in the woods! The children had so much fun exploring sticks, building tiny houses for “fairies”, and using their imaginations in nature. 🧚✨

We also had a stick throwing competition to see who could throw the furthest! Everyone took turns beautifully and followed the rules so well 👏😊

To finish off our adventure, we cooled down with a yummy ice lolly in the shade. ☀️🍦

What an amazing start to half term we’ve had! ☀️🎨🧊

With the weather being so warm, we decided to try some ice painting! Using watercolour paints, paintbrushes, ice cubes, and lots of imagination, the children had so much fun getting creative.

This activity encouraged the children to practise their fine motor skills and concentration as they carefully painted the ice cubes. We also explored a little bit of science along the way, watching the ice melt and noticing how the colours mixed together to create new shades.

A simple activity with so many opportunities for learning, creativity, and fun! 💛

A week of unpredictable weather, quiet moments, outdoor adventures, park visits, sand play, painting, reading, and everything in between ☀️🌧️📚🎨

Cotton Socks is closed on Bank Holiday Monday, but I’m looking forward to welcoming all of the school holiday children back next week for more fun and adventures together 💛

Have a lovely weekend everyone 😊

Today has reminded me how lucky children are to simply… rest when they need to and how lucky I am to be able to give them the opportunity to do just that! 🥰

We were on our way to the park in our new triple pushchair today, which must be very comfortable because all three little ones drifted off to sleep along the way!

So instead of rushing on, we parked up in the woods under the canopy of the trees, safe and dry from the rain. They’ve been sleeping peacefully to the sound of the wind in the trees and beautiful birdsong — lots of fresh air and the perfect chance for their minds and bodies to recharge naturally 🌿

I even used the .bird.id app to find out which birds we could hear singing around us 🐦

Safe, dry, happy children ❤️
Snacks, drinks, and a whole forest ready for exploring when they wake up 🌲

✨ Welcome to our playroom! ✨

I’ve realised I haven’t yet shared our custom-built garage conversion, designed especially with the children in mind 💛

Every part of the space has been carefully thought through to create a safe, welcoming and child-friendly environment where little ones can feel happy, comfortable and inspired to learn through play.

The playroom is fully equipped with everything we need for our day together — whether that’s eating, sleeping, exploring, creating or simply relaxing 🧸📚🎨

The space has been filled with a wide range of toys, books and creative resources, all chosen to support different stages of development and interests. To keep things fresh, exciting and engaging, I regularly rotate activities and resources so there’s always something new to discover ✨

The room itself is clean, bright and airy, creating a calm atmosphere for the children to enjoy throughout the day. There is also free-flow access straight into the garden 🌿☀️ This allows the children to independently choose where they would like to play, supporting confidence, curiosity and active learning both indoors and outdoors.

🦖 Dinosaur Takeover in the Play Room! 🦕

Our play room has been taken over by dinosaurs! The children had so much fun exploring the dinosaurs around the train tracks and building with magnetic tiles to create their own prehistoric world.

As we played, we talked about the language of size, comparing which dinosaurs were “bigger” and which were “smaller.” We also looked closely at the dinosaurs’ faces and identified features such as their eyes, mouth, and teeth.

It was wonderful to see so much imagination, curiosity, communication, and learning happening naturally through play! 🦕✨

After meeting the one and only The Gruffalo at the incredible Gruffalo Discovery Land at Twycross Zoo last week, the excitement definitely didn’t stop there! 🌲🦊🐍🦉

Back at Cotton Socks, we carried on the adventure by listening to The Gruffalo story on our Tonies Box from Tonies UK 📚🎶 The children absolutely loved bringing the story back to life, joining in with their favourite parts and talking about all the characters we met on our special day out! 💛

Storytelling is such a wonderful way to spark imagination, build language skills, and relive exciting experiences together ✨

What a brilliant time of year it is! 🌼🐣

We’re so lucky to have Alvaston Park so close to us – it’s the perfect place to spot the adorable baby ducklings and goslings at this time of year. The children absolutely love watching them and exploring all the wildlife around us.

From Cotton Socks there is a safe walk down the canal path, which takes us directly to the park. It’s such a lovely, peaceful route and a great way to get some fresh air and sunshine.

We often head over for a little adventure – feeding the birds, enjoying a picnic, watching the anglers by the water, and of course having lots of fun on the new play equipment. There’s always so much to see and do, and it’s a wonderful way for the children to learn about nature while staying active.

Days like these are what make childminding so special 💛

🌿🦍 Our Zoo Adventure! 🐒🌿

What an absolutely amazing day we’ve had on our trip to the zoo! The children were full of excitement from start to finish, and it was wonderful to see their curiosity come to life as we explored all the different animals.

From watching the cheeky monkeys swing through the trees to spotting the tigers and leopards lounging in the sun, there were smiles, laughter, and lots of “wow” moments all around 🥰

We talked about the animals, the sounds they make, and where they live, turning our day into a fun learning experience too! The children especially loved choosing their favourite animals and sharing why they liked them 🐅🦒
