Derby High School Celebrates Excellent GCSE Results

Two years of hard work, determination and ambition came together today as our students opened their GCSE results, and there was a great deal to celebrate.

63% of all grades were awarded at grades 7–9, with an outstanding 44% at grades 8 and 9, the equivalent of the former A*. Across the year group, one third of students achieved grades 7, 8 and 9 in every one of their GCSE subjects.

These results are a wonderful achievement, but so too is everything our students have accomplished alongside them.

Today is about celebrating not only what these young people have achieved, but everything they have become along the way.

Derby High School Celebrates Best Ever A Level Results.

There is a real sense of celebration at Derby High today as students receive an exceptional set of A Level results – the school’s best ever, with 80% of all grades awarded at A*–B, and an outstanding 27% at A*. This is a remarkable achievement for a talented and determined group of young people and a very special day for the whole Derby High community.

The headline figures are exceptional, but they tell only part of the story. Behind every result is a young person who has worked hard, responded to challenge, grown in confidence and pursued their own ambitions. It is that combination of individual achievement and collective success that makes today such a proud moment.

Congratulations to our students. Today is both a celebration of everything our students have achieved and the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

Our final week before the summer break was a busy one for our Duke of Edinburgh Award participants!

Our Year 12 students successfully completed their Gold Qualifying Expedition in the Yorkshire Three Peaks, showing incredible resilience, teamwork and determination throughout the week. They should all be extremely proud of their achievement!

Meanwhile, our Year 10 students completed their Bronze Expedition Training with Adventure Expeditions, developing key skills including first aid, navigation, campcraft and Trangia cooking before their Qualifying Expedition in September.

It has been fantastic to see so many students taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award and progressing through the different levels of the programme.

Well done to everyone involved!

Students from Years 8–10 had a fantastic time on their residential trip to Madrid and Ávila, experiencing Spanish culture, history and language first-hand.

From exploring Madrid and the Royal Palace to sampling churros and tapas, making traditional Yemas de Ávila sweets, and practising their Spanish, the trip was packed with memorable experiences.

Thank you to Mr. Quichaud, Mrs. Martinez, Mr. Hutchinson, Ms. Kelliher and Mr. Ince for supporting the trip, and especially to Ms. Kelliher and Mrs. Martinez for organising such a successful visit.
