What an incredible day in animal care! 🦅🦉 Big thanks to BB Falconry for bringing their amazing birds and sharing their expertise with our students. From flying sessions to feeding a baby owl, it was an unforgettable experience filled with learning and excitement. 🦅
The students were absolutely captivated and full of questions! One student said that she’d woken up really early to come in specially for the falconry experience even though it isn’t her usual college day 🙌🏽

June is buzzing with excitement for our animal care students! 🐾 From wrapping up assignments to exploring the next level of study, they’re also diving into industry knowledge with guest speakers and hands-on experiences. 🎓

🐈‍⬛ We’re thrilled to welcome Cats Protection back, offering talks from Entry 3 to Level 3 on Careers in Cats Protection, Animal Welfare and Ethics, Feline Behaviour, and Health and Disease. 🐱

We hope these sessions inspire our students to pursue rewarding careers in animal welfare and charities. 🐈 💚

We were thrilled to welcome back our alumni, Tamara Shakespeare, who completed her Level 3 in Animal Management with us. She has since earned a degree in Vet Nursing and is now the Head Veterinary Nurse at Medivet in Alfreton. We’re incredibly proud of her achievements and grateful for her time in speaking to our current Level 3 students today. We hope her inspiring journey motivates our students on their own paths! 🐾🎓

BB Falconry is back at Broomfield Hall for the third year! 🦉
Join us this Friday the 19th of June, from 9:15 onwards for two amazing sessions with birds of prey. Learn about husbandry, handling, and even participate in flying sessions!
Open to all students from Entry 3 to HE. Gain work experience hours and don’t miss out—contact your tutor to confirm your spot.
Plus, our staff will be honing their skills in a professional development session on bird first aid and health checks. See you there! 🌟 🦅🪶🦉

🌱 Hands-on learning in action! 🌱
Today’s off-the-job training session gave our Greenkeeping and Horticulture apprentices the opportunity to learn the key principles of laying turf – and then put those skills into practice.
Working within the wallaby enclosure on our animal unit, apprentices prepared the ground and laid turf to create a safe, durable surface. It might not be a golf green, but mastering these fundamentals is essential for careers across land-based industries.
Experiences like this build not only technical knowledge, but also confidence, attention to detail, and real workplace skills.
A brilliant example of cross-curricular collaboration between our Apprenticeship and Animal Care teams – with the added bonus that the wallabies enjoyed the company too! 😊

We loved welcoming prospective students and their families last Saturday and the soggy weather did not deter us. Our amazing team was there to showcase our area and answer all your questions.
