🍂 As the weather turns… 🌧️

Please remember to send your child in with a pair of named wellies ready for our muddy garden adventures!

Wellies can be kept in a named cloth bag on their peg.

We have waterproofs for the children to use, but sadly we don’t have space to store spare wellies.

We don’t want anyone to miss out on getting outside and exploring, whatever the weather! 💦🌿

Families across Derbyshire are invited to explore our new Best Start in Life (BSiL) Family Hubs at a series of special open days this October.

Join us at Birdholme Family Hub on 16 October or Cotmanhay Family Hub on 19 October to meet staff, explore the facilities and discover the support available for children and families from pregnancy through to starting school.

Families attending will be able to take part in activities, meet local organisations and professionals, tour the hubs, and find out more about the support available both locally and online through Derbyshire's Best Start in Life programme.

💬 Elizabeth, who attends a Portage Pals session, said: "One of my children is neurodivergent and the other is neurotypical. It's amazing that I can bring them both here and know they will be welcomed, with toys and activities adapted to meet both of their needs.
I've never felt more comfortable bringing my SEND child anywhere. If you have the opportunity to come to the hubs, just do it, because it will change your life."

We're also pleased to announce that Alice's View Children's Centre in North Wingfield will become Derbyshire's next Best Start in Life Family Hub, with further hubs planned across Derbyshire in the future.

Register your attendance for free at: www.tinyurl.com/BSILOpenDays

Celebrating Nigerian Independence Day 🇳🇬

Today we had a lovely time celebrating Nigerian Independence Day at preschool!

One of our children kindly brought in beautiful, traditional clothing for us to look at. The children were fascinated by the colours, patterns and details, and we had some lovely conversations about where the clothing comes from and when it might be worn.

Of course, we couldn’t learn about Nigeria without having a little dance! The children loved listening to Nigerian folk music and afrobeat and having a go at dancing along.

We love using these special moments to celebrate the different cultures and backgrounds that make our preschool community so wonderful.

It was a lovely opportunity for the children to be curious, ask questions and learn something new together. 💚

A big thank you to our family for helping us bring a little piece of Nigerian culture into preschool today.

First of October 🍂

This week we got Autumn ready at preschool!🍁

As we have gave our book corner a little makeover! 📚

The children have loved looking at our themed books alongside some of the props to go with it. This is great for encouraging the children’s language of acting out familiar stories!

We can’t wait for the cosy season to begin as we start to see the colours changing on the trees 🧡.

A little bit of construction fun at preschool today!

The roadworks outside preschool have definitely caught the children’s attention! They have loved watching all the different vehicles coming and going and have been asking lots of questions about what they are doing.

We decided to carry their interest into our play and set up a messy construction tray with mud, paper and some diggers and vehicles. The children had a brilliant time driving the vehicles through the mud and then across the paper, discovering the different track marks they could make. There were some very muddy hands!

It’s lovely to see how something the children have noticed can spark so much curiosity and become part of our learning and play.

We never quite know where their interests will take us and that’s one of the things we love most about preschool!

Yesterday with the roadworks starting in the village we had a ‘in the moment’ learning opportunity and took the children to see and hear what was happening in their environment.
