Following directions from a sat nav
During the independent driving part of the test, most candidates will be asked to follow directions from a sat nav.
The examiner will provide the sat nav (a TomTom Start 52) and set it up. You won’t need to set the route - the examiner will do this for you. So, it doesn’t matter what make or model of sat nav you practise with.
You can’t follow directions from your own sat nav during the test - you have to use the one supplied by the examiner.
You’ll be able to ask the examiner for confirmation of where you’re going if you’re not sure. It won’t matter if you go the wrong way unless you make a fault while doing it.
One in 5 driving tests won’t use a sat nav. You’ll need to follow traffic signs instead.

Are you planning to pass your test before the new test starts....?
The new driving test comes into effect on 4th December this year which is not that far away now. If you plan to pass your practical before the new test comes in it is important to put a plan into place to get you through.
1) if you have not already passed your theory you need to put in for it in the next few weeks and make sure you are passing mock tests.
2) if you have already passed your test you need to work with your instructor to understand any weaknesses that you have and take enough lessons to work on them. Agree a timescale for lessons to address weaknesses and book your test allowing enough time.
3) build in time just in case you fail and need to do the test again.
