Congratulations to one of our students, Olivia, who completed her Advanced Marine Engineering Qualification over the summer!
Olivia visited HMS Raleigh, where she completed the qualification with the Sea Cadets. As part of the course, she undertook practical training, including removing valves and collets, as well as dismantling and reassembling a diesel engine. She also studied the theory behind how engines work and are maintained, the different systems within an engine and steering systems, health and safety, and the physics of ship stability, including centres of gravity and what prevents a vessel from capsizing.
A fantastic experience and achievement!
Olivia is now considering undertaking an Advanced Electrical Qualification and visiting HMS Sultan later this year, before moving on to study A Levels and Engineering. She hopes to pursue a career as a Marine Engineer in the Royal Navy.
