As part of careers week, Glen Jones from Radio Derby gave a talk to our KS4 students.
Glen spoke about his careers throughout radio which spans over 20 years and how he uses his neurodiversity to his advantage and how it allows him to think differently.
Glen told students about the times he has had to conquer his fears to cover a news story; the many ways of getting into the media industry and the types of jobs available behind the scenes in media.๐ง๐๏ธ๐ถ

The students had a guided tour of the campus, which included the Studentโs Union, Library, Sports Hall, Science Labs, Greenhouse and the Marine Unit. Alongside the tour, the students were taught how to research, reference their work, plus, how to avoid plagiarism and the correct use of AI. This was a great link to our Project Qualification course, which the students are currently completing.
The day ended with a very positive discussion about how we can support AHS students make the best transition into University study. ๐

A huge thank you to Nigel and Dan, our drum teacher at Alderwasley Hall, who put Nigel in touch with the school.

๐ Holocaust Education Talk at Our Upper Site
Last week, we were honoured to welcome Hilary Hodsman from the Holocaust Educational Trust to our Upper site. Hilary is the daughter of Holocaust survivor Henry Wuga MBE, and she shared his memories and experiences with our students.
This talk tied in with our collective thought on Holocaust Memorial Day, supporting key curriculum themes of respect, identity, equality, and challenging discrimination.
The session enabled students to deepen their understanding of historical events and encouraged them to reflect on the importance of creating a safe, inclusive, and compassionate school community today.
We are grateful to Hilary for delivering such a meaningful and impactful session.
