Islamic Architecture and Contemplative Spaces
Continuing the theme of my summer, one shaped by quiet living and gentle introspection, I visited the Islamic gardens at the Aga Khan Centre in London’s Knowledge Quarter, King’s Cross. Each garden draws inspiration from the architectural traditions of the Islamic world, from Mughal India to Moorish Spain.
What struck me was the way even the simplest of these spaces carried a profound intricacy: the deliberate choice of stone, the careful arrangement of water, the subtle fragrance of plants drifting in the air. These are not just gardens, but sanctuaries, small havens of stillness and reflection tucked within the restless energy of the city.
