We’ve had the best couple of days with our pumpkins at our Derby nursery!

Yesterday, the children gave the pumpkins a proper scrub in the water trays and helped cut them open, ready for our autumn crafts.

Today, we collected all the seeds, and the children planted and watered them! This teaches them where their food comes from and how plants grow. They're so excited to be on daily watering duty now to see if anything grows!

Ooh, look at all those pumpkins our children picked yesterday during their visit to Bluebell Dairy Bluebell Dairy!

Today, our Wise Owls at Derby Nursery have been busy helping us wash them all to get ready for our exciting craft activities this week! 🍂🎃

The children loved choosing from so many shapes and sizes, and today they even practiced cutting them using craft tools and we can't wait to see what amazing pumpkin creations they make next!

On Saturday, our team came together to celebrate at our annual Company Awards Night 🍊🌳🏆

It was a wonderful evening celebrating the achievements and successes across all 6 of our nurseries.

What a team! We couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of you. Through all the ups and downs, we’ve pulled together, supported one another and come out even stronger. The incredible relationships you build with our children and families never go unnoticed. We are so proud of you all!

🏆 Outstanding Contribution – Freya
Freya always puts her heart into everything she does. Her positivity is infectious, she has built wonderful relationships with our families and she is an amazing manager. A very well-deserved award!

🏆 Ollie’s Champions – Mike, Hannah & Janice
Although they may not be face-to-face with the children or involved in the everyday care, our nursery simply wouldn’t run the same without them. Their hard work and support behind the scenes is invaluable. A huge congratulations to you all!

🌿 Another exciting week at Forest School! 🕷️🌳

We welcomed some more new faces to our Forest School adventure this week—including one very special visitor who was discovered at nursery… a spider! 🕷️

We carefully brought our little friend along to the forest so he could find a new home. This gave us a wonderful opportunity to talk about how important spiders are to our ecosystem and why it’s so important that we care for and respect all creatures, big and small. The children loved watching as we released him and waited patiently to see where he would choose to make his new home 🍃

Later, the children became fascinated by sticks and began exploring all the different ways they could be used. While enjoying our snack, Suzie read us a wonderful story all about sticks and the many things they can become 📖🌿

The story sparked lots of imaginative play, with sticks transforming into broomsticks for flying through the forest, hammers for fixing things, and so much more 🧙‍♀️🔨✨

It was another fantastic Forest School session filled with curiosity, creativity, discovery and plenty of imagination! 🌳💚

This morning in butterflies the children were fascinated as they looked at a big spider we caught. We talked about how many legs a spider has, and one little one excitedly said, “Incy Wincy!” 🕷️

This encouraged everyone to join in and sing “Incy Wincy Spider” together! 🎶 It was lovely to see their enthusiasm, curiosity and confidence as they learned through play and song 💕

This week’s Forest School adventure was full of excitement, exploration and discovery! 🌳🍄

As we explored the forest, the children made some wonderful discoveries. First, we came across a mushroom! The children demonstrated their excellent understanding of Forest School safety by remembering not to touch something they didn’t recognise. Instead, they alerted an adult, and we talked about why it was important to leave the mushroom alone while also learning about the important role fungi play within the forest ecosystem.

We then discovered lots of prickly objects scattered across the forest floor. The children were curious to find out what might be hiding inside and discussed why they might be covered in spikes. Their curiosity led to some fantastic conversations and observations about the natural world around us.

The children then put their cooperation and teamwork skills into action as they worked together to build a shelter. They experimented with the different equipment and natural materials available, sharing ideas and helping one another to create their structure.

To finish our adventure, the children had the opportunity to climb our fallen tree. Some children confidently made their way along the tree, while others chose to stay closer to the trunk where they felt safest. It was wonderful to see each child challenge themselves at their own pace, building confidence and developing their physical skills.

Another fantastic Forest School session filled with curiosity, teamwork, problem-solving and lots of fun! 🌿

🦉 Forest School Adventures! 🌳

This week at Forest School, some of our new Wise Owl children had lots of fun getting to know their forest surroundings!

We started our adventure with sticks! 🪵 The children were fascinated by all the different shapes and sizes and, of course, everyone wanted to find the biggest one! We compared our sticks and talked about which ones were the longest, shortest, thickest and thinnest. Then one child had a brilliant idea — a smaller stick made the perfect fishing rod! 🎣

Later after tea, while we were enjoying some free play, we made an exciting discovery — a worm! 🪱 Some of the children loved watching our wiggly visitor, while one child was definitely not a fan! We talked about how important worms and other insects are to our forest ecosystem. We then discovered that our worm-wary explorer actually loves ladybirds! ❤️

So, naturally, we set off on a ladybird hunt! 🐞🔎

It was a fantastic and successful Forest School session, full of exploring, teamwork, curiosity and plenty of muddy adventures. We can't wait to see what our next Forest School trip brings! 🌿🦉

🌳🌧️ A Rainy Forest School Adventure! ☔🌈

This week’s Forest School adventure was our first rainy one in a very long time! 🌧️ But the rain certainly didn’t stop us from having lots of fun!

The children were so excited to get their waterproofs on and couldn’t wait to splash through the muddy puddles — just like Peppa Pig! 🐷💦 There were plenty of smiles, laughter and muddy boots along the way!

Later, we put our teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test as we worked together to build a shelter where we could sit, enjoy our snack and stay nice and dry 🛖🍎
