Ceroc Etiquette post update

Thank you so much to everyone who has commented on our recent post about dance etiquette.

Mark and I have read every single comment and it is very clear that this has touched on something much bigger than a simple reminder about asking people to dance.

The honesty and openness in so many of your replies has really made us stop and think. It has highlighted important conversations around confidence, rejection, body image, returning after time away, anxiety around asking, and what it truly means to feel welcome on a dance floor.

It is clear this is something many people feel strongly about, and your comments have given us a lot to reflect on.

This has raised some really important issues so rather than replying with a few quick thoughts, we feel it deserves a proper conversation.

We will be discussing this in depth in our next podcast episode when we are back from holiday because it really matters to us

Ceroc Inspire has always been about creating a warm and inclusive community where people feel welcome wherever they are in their dance journey and conversations like this help us keep building exactly that.

A little reminder about Ceroc etiquette and the kind of dance community we are proud to create.

One of the things that makes Ceroc so special is how welcoming and inclusive it is. We all remember what it felt like to be new, nervous, or to wonder if we would be asked to dance.

As leads, if someone asks you for a dance, our ethos has always been to say yes wherever possible.

Of course there are genuine reasons to say no. You may need a drink, a breather, a quick shirt change, or to nip to the loo. That is absolutely fine. But if you do need to say no, the polite thing to do is make a point of going back and asking that person for a dance later.

Repeatedly turning people down can really knock their confidence, whether intended or not.

At Ceroc Inspire, we dance because we love connection, community and making people feel welcome. Who someone is, what level they dance at, their age, size, or how long they have been dancing should never determine whether they are worthy of a dance.

Let’s keep looking out for one another and making sure everyone leaves feeling included, valued and glad they came.

That is the Ceroc way.
