🚨 ONE WEEK left to take part: Survey closes 24 March 2026.
We’re inviting people to take part in a research study investigating the prevalence of maltreatment of UK-based Dance Professionals. Through this research, we hope to understand these experiences with the aim of helping to preventing them.
We believe that the majority of dance environments are safe, inclusive, and non-abusive, and we believe deeply in the power of dance for wellbeing, expression, and health. This research is about identifying and recognising experiences of maltreatment and how these can be best addressed and improved going forward.
You are invited to take part in an anonymous online survey consisting of your experiences of maltreatment, when maltreatment was experienced, and who perpetrated the maltreatment. Recommendations from this project will inform governance and partnership building and evidence-based policymaking regarding safeguarding and abuse prevention in dance in the United Kingdom. The survey includes demographic questions and multiple-choice questions.
You can take part in this study if you are:
- Current or former dance professional within 10 years of training and/or working in the UK dance sector(s), regardless of whether you have experienced maltreatment
- 18+ years old
Please be assured that this study has received ethical approval from Newcastle University Ethics Board – Humanities and Social Sciences, Approval Number [67405], and is funded by UKRI, Research England, QR Policy Support Fund.
