We are delighted to announce the results of the Junior Maths Challenge.

36 Year 7 students entered this national competition. From this we have had 10 students attain the Bronze award and 9 Silver awards.

64 Year 8 students entered with 23 achieving Bronze, 13 Silver, and 5 Gold.

Of the top scorers 3 students will go on to do the Junior Kangaroo challenge with the next round taking place on the 9th June. 1 student will go on to do the Maths Olympiad, also on the 9th June, which is for the top 0.5% to 1% of scorers.

This is a truly impressive set of results for LCS students with thresholds higher than in previous years.

Congratulations to all who took part and many thanks to Miss Flower for giving students the opportunity to demonstrate their Maths skills.

On Friday we took a group of 20 students to a Netball Masterclass at Loughborough University. They started out with a 2 hour training session, followed by a nutrition seminar. Students then got to see some of the world class facilities on campus before heading to the activations site to make some signs and get their faces painted ready for the match. We then got to watch the Next Generation match (upcoming players), before getting to have a Q & A session with one of the NPL players Berri Neil before watching the NPL match Loughborough Lightning vs Nottingham Forest. Sadly it wasn't a win for Loughborough but everyone had a great time!

We love seeing the varied and high quality revision resources our Year 11 students have with them on the morning of exams.

Today’s GCSE English Literature examination showcased flash cards, spider diagrams, and knowledge organisers.

Hard work always pays off and we have no doubt this year group will achieve the excellent results this summer that they deserve 🌟

Following on from the Year 7's County Tournament at the start of this half term, the Year 8's rounded up this season's netball with their rearranged City Tournament at Woodlands. Having lost one of our players to injury, we had some readjustment in positions which took a match or 2 to settle. The team played some excellent netball and managed some fantastic wins, but couldn't quite maintain that 2nd place from the County's but still finished on the podium this time with a Bronze medal. Well done to all involved.

On Weds 6th May we took a group of our young sports leaders to the Derby School Sports Partnership Commonwealth Games Sports Festival.

This festival had 240 primary school students in and started the day with an opening ceremony based on the values of the games.

Our leaders were then delivering various sessions to which they had planned, such as tag rugby and capture the flag, with the afternoon sessions based on relays.

The students showed really aptitude for leading and encouraging the younger participants and got some valuable experience at planning and managing activities. Huge well done to all involved.

Last term, our Year 8 students took part in MADfest. They worked alongside practitioners from across Derby in a series of creative workshops focused on resilience.

From that experience, they have helped create a new website. It is designed by students, for students, to support mental and physical resilience in school and beyond.

The site shares student-led ideas and creative work, giving a real insight into how young people understand and build resilience in their daily lives.

This project was supported by Bloc Hub and a range of external practitioners, all working together to bring student voices to the front.

We encourage parents and carers to explore the site, talk about it at home, and see the work students have been part of.

To access the site, please refer to the Username and Password details sent out to all parents and carers by email.

Last week we were lucky to have Box Clever theatre company back at LCS. They put on a spectacular performance of Macbeth for the Year 10 students studying the text for their GCSE. This was followed up with an interactive workshop where students got the chance to work with the actors and explore some key themes in the play. Box Clever will be back next year to perform both Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet!
