Dear Parents and Carers, I am writing to update you on the recent events at Littleover Community School; provide some key messages for this academic year, and to inform you about the important dates for this term.

Next week we are turning Littleover Yellow to celebrate World Mental Health Day and Hello Yellow.

Students must wear suitable clothing and should not wear the following: crop tops or any item of clothing which reveals a child's under garments, or any item of clothing which displays offensive or discriminatory language. The rules around make up and jewellery remain the same as the whole school uniform policy and they must wear something yellow

🎓 Oxbridge Alumni Return to Littleover 6th Form
It was fantastic to welcome back three Littleover 6th Form alumni who have gone on to study, or are currently studying, at Oxford or Cambridge to support the next generation of LCS students.

Caitlin Smith (Modern Languages), Will Wright (Biomedical Science) and Nathan Namgoong (Computer Science) returned to LCS last week to share their first-hand experiences with 18 Year 13 students who are preparing to make Oxbridge applications this year.

Drawing on their own experience of successfully navigating the process, they offered invaluable advice on admissions tests, interviews, personal statements and choosing a college, as well as answering questions from our Year 13s.

👏 A huge thank you to Caitlin, Will and Nathan for giving up their time and coming back to Littleover to support students following in their footsteps.

Spotlight on Languages!

Last week, we celebrated Languages Week at LCS. Students were involved in various activities in language lessons and at lunchtimes to celebrate languages.

They explored the benefits of learning languages and completed language quizzes in form time.

Sixty-five Year 11 students took part in a Languages and STEM events, and we also offered Italian taster sessions, salsa dancing, and students had the opportunity to make German Schultüte (a tradition on the first day of school in Germany).

We look forward to celebrating languages throughout the year at LCS.

Football results. This week saw the Year 11s play vs Woodlands who played well but were defeated 8-0. On Wednesday the Year 7s went to their first tournament and managed to win one, draw 2 and lose 1. Finally the 6th Form football team and the Year 10s played their first matches on Thursday evening and both had a 3-0 loss.

On Tuesday saw the first of our City Netball Tournaments, starting with the Year 11's. The competition was split into a cup for more advanced players and a plate, for those who have less experience. Littleover were playing in the cup and started well against Derby High in their first game. We got off to a good start and managed a 12-7 win. Next up we played Woodlands and had a great match winning 22-2. Feeling full of confidence we went into the final match vs Ecclesbourne, which we knew would be a tough game. This was a close match, however we came out winners on a 16-13 victory and were declared City Champions. Huge well done to all who played.

We can now announce the outcomes of our Business Studies poll!

The chocolate taste test:
12 people thought it was cheap at 59p per bar
10 people thought it was expensive at £2.25 per bar
81 people said between £1 and £1.35.

It was Miss Molly Tesco brand at...🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 …just 59p!

Severn Trent tap water (0.26p per litre) was by far the favourite with 34 votes versus 11 for Evian (66.66p per litre).
