This year saw the first exams of the new GCSEs in French, German and Spanish. ALL has been closely involved throughout the whole process, working with DfE, Ofqual, the exam boards and other organisations to ensure that the change was successful and of benefit to pupils.

The good news is that there has been a smooth transition from the previous specification to the new one. In overall terms there has been a small but noticeable increase in the percentages getting the key grades (9, 7, 4, 1) showing how teachers and pupils have worked hard on getting to grips with the new specification.

Today is National Thank a Teacher Day, an annual celebration of teachers and support staff across early years settings, schools and colleges. https://thankateacher.co.uk/

✨ A huge thank you to you all for being languages teachers who open hearts and minds to the wider world and the languages, cultures, people and places within it.

✨ Thank you for weaving the golden threads of curiosity, creativity, joy, acceptance, resilience, tolerance and fun through the range of activities you plan and engage learners with both inside and outside of classrooms.

✨ Thank you for using multilingual play, song, music, art, drama, puppetry, roleplay, storytelling and film to bring the outside world into their reality.

Thank you for inspiring your learners every day to be proud learners and linguists, for taking them on school visits to wonderful places, for linking with partner schools in new and exciting places, for widening their horizons, for forging links and making connections with the languages spoken across the communities your schools and educational establishments serve, for celebrating diversity of language and cultures - thank you for being a languages teacher, trainee, languages assistant and teacher trainer. πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ✨ Celebrating Language, Culture & Friendship! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§βœ¨

I was delighted to attend the Sommerfest der Deutschen Sprache 2026 hosted by German Ambassador Susanne Baumann at the German Ambassador’s Residence in London. πŸ›οΈ

The event celebrated the teaching and learning of German across the UK and highlighted the importance of strengthening cultural and educational ties between Germany and Britain.

A special highlight was the presentation of the German-British Friendship Award: Network Champion for German πŸ†

We were also treated to an inspiring keynote speech from former England footballer Tony Woodcock ⚽, who spoke about the enduring ties and friendships between Germany and the UK.

It was fantastic to connect with so many passionate people dedicated to language learning, cultural exchange, and international friendship. 🀝🌍

Thank you to everyone who made this memorable celebration possible! πŸŽ‰
