💜 From standing at the back… to finding the confidence to step forward.

Lily-Grace has been part of BTP for three years, starting with our Itsy Bitsy classes and now taking Foundation Musical Theatre and Beginners Acro.

When she first joined us, Lily-Grace found social communication, sensory processing and engaging with her peers incredibly challenging. There was a time when she wouldn’t even sing or dance in front of her family or tell them what she had done in class.

Now?

“Watch me! Watch me! Watch me!” 🥹💜

Her family have seen such a change in her confidence.

Lily-Grace has been able to progress at her own pace at BTP, while still being gently encouraged to take that next step outside her comfort zone. Sometimes she may still choose to stand slightly away from the group — and that’s okay. What matters is how far she has come.

Despite struggling with anxiety and school attendance, her family tell us they have never experienced that same avoidance with BTP. She’s ready to come to class, she attends consistently and she gives it her all.

And that confidence is beginning to carry into life outside BTP too. Before the summer holidays, her school teacher commented that Lily-Grace had “found her voice”, was engaging more with her peers and was needing less additional support going into school.

Lily-Grace is autistic and still experiences challenges with social communication, anxiety and sensory processing. BTP gives her a space where she can be herself, enjoy what she loves and, when she needs it, receive that little push that says:

“You can do this. Give it a go.”

For us, this is what performing arts is about.

Not just creating performers.

Helping children discover what they’re capable of. 💜

Ava once told herself she couldn’t do lyrical dance. Now she’s performing in group dances and competing in solos. Here’s her journey in her own words. 💗

“Over the past few years, I’ve seen a huge improvement in my lyrical dancing. When I first started, I lacked confidence and often told myself I couldn’t do it.
Through wonderful teaching, and lots of support and encouragement from both my peers and teachers, I’ve seen a massive increase in my confidence and technique. I now feel so much more confident and prepared, and I can only thank Born to Perform for the patience, guidance and belief they’ve shown me over the years.
I’ve now been able to compete in solos and take part in group dances, something I never would have imagined doing before.
Born to Perform has helped me grow not only as a dancer, but as a person, and I am forever grateful for that.” — Ava

You don’t have to be good at something to begin. Give yourself the chance to grow. ✨

What does BTP stand for? 💜

Helping children discover what they’re capable of through the performing arts.

We take your child’s potential seriously. We’ll encourage them, teach them properly and celebrate their progress, whether they’re taking their first class or stepping onto a stage.

They don’t have to know what they can do yet. That’s what trying is for.

VALID REASONS TO MISS A CLASS OR TEAM REHEARSAL:
🦵 Your leg has fallen off.
🦸 You’ve been kidnapped by the Power Rangers.
😴 You’re in a coma.
💪 You're the best in the world.

Okay… I’m joking 😂 BUT there is a serious point here.
We’re living in an era where everyone wants instant gratification.

You want to be the star of the show… but you also want to miss rehearsals whenever something better comes up.
You want to progress as a dancer, singer, performer or athlete… but miss weeks of training.

You want the lead role, the solo, the competition team or the opportunities… but don’t want the commitment that comes with them.

And then the person who enforces the boundaries is somehow the bad guy when those opportunities go to someone who has consistently turned up. 🤷‍♀️

Of course people get ill. Families have important events. Life happens. This isn’t about genuine reasons for absence.

It’s about creating a commitment culture.

When you commit to a class, cast or team, other people are relying on you. Your absence doesn’t just affect you — it affects formations, choreography, rehearsals and everyone else who DID turn up.

Talent is brilliant.

But talent without consistency, reliability and commitment will only take you so far.

You don’t have to make performing arts your whole life.
But if you want the opportunities, you have to show up for them. 💗
