Public Health 5-19: Health Prospectus for Schools

Did you know that Your Child’s Health and Wellbeing guide from Derby City Council provides a wealth of information and support for families? The resource covers a wide range of topics including mental health, healthy relationships, vaccinations, healthy weight, online safety, dental health, puberty, and support with smoking, va**ng, alcohol and drugs.

We encourage parents and carers to explore this helpful guide and access the support available to help children and young people stay happy, healthy and safe. 💙

📍 School Council and KS3 Visit the Houses of Parliament

Yesterday, some of our KS3 students and members of the School Council enjoyed an exciting visit to the Houses of Parliament in London.

During a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster, students explored some of its most iconic and historic spaces, including the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and Westminster Hall, the oldest building within the Houses of Parliament.

The visit also included an engaging workshop on how petitions are presented to Parliament. Working in groups, students created their own petitions on a range of important topics including Health, Education, Transport and Science, developing their understanding of democracy and how citizens can make their voices heard.

Afterwards, we explored some of London's famous landmarks, enjoyed a picnic in St James's Park, and finished the day with a visit to Buckingham Palace.

It was a fantastic day, full of learning, discussion and memorable experiences, and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.

For students who were unable to secure a place on this trip, there will be another opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament later this academic year. Further details and dates will be shared soon.

📚 Every Day Counts!
We understand that students can sometimes feel a little under the weather. NHS guidance advises that children can still attend school with mild symptoms such as a slight cough, runny nose, sore throat or headache, provided they are otherwise well and do not have a high temperature.
Every day in school makes a difference. Every lesson attended is an opportunity to learn, progress and achieve. When lessons are missed, valuable learning time is lost, and those missed days can quickly add up over the school year.
✅ Mild cold symptoms? Come to school.
✅ Feeling well enough to learn? Come to school.
✅ Every day in school counts.

If your child is due to start secondary school in September 2027, have you completed your application form?

✅ Complete your application form
✅ List your preferred schools in your genuine order of preference
✅ Submit any supplementary forms required by your chosen schools

The application deadline is 31st October 2026, so don't leave it until the last minute.
