This week is the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, so we thought we would make some bird feeders to hang up at our windows to see if we could attract any birds. We went up to our outdoor classroom and mixed together lard and bird seed before putting our mixture into moulds and leaving them to set.
Hopefully we will see some birds visit very soon! 🦜

Is anyone familiar with the story of The Colour Monster?

This is one of our core books chosen because of its fabulous way of explaining the different feelings we experience to children as well as helping encourage them to explore their emotions. The Author of this book, Anna Llenas, is currently a teacher and art therapist specialising in art and emotional education.

As well as reading the book we do lots of activities using The Colour Monster such as story stones, puppets and we have coloured Pom poms in a feelings jar which help our children to understand their different feelings- that it is normal to get sad or angry but that we can manage these feelings by doing what makes us feel better.

Emotional Well Being in children is very important and promoting positive emotions and healthy mental health really does start in the early years. We recommend using The Colour Monster at home to support your children’s knowledge and understanding of their emotions. There is also a follow on book “The Colour Monster goes to School” which again is fantastic to explore any feelings of anxiety around this next chapter of starting school.

We recognise here at Busy Bees that starting preschool can be a very daunting transition for our new starters, as well as for parents/carers!
Our main aim for the coming weeks is to ensure our children feel safe, happy and confident during their time here, therefore our Core Focus is “All About Me”.
We will be taking every opportunity to learn more about our children’s individual personalities, their likes and dislikes, family and home life, which will enable us as key workers to plan activities and learning experiences to best meet our children’s needs.
These past two weeks our children have got stuck into lots of fun activities! They have made their own play doh, and then created hedgehogs with it, they have created some lovely Autumn pictures, explored our malleable farm tuff tray and so much more.
Lots of fun learning has been had and we are so happy that our children have all settled really well 🐝💛
