Our curriculum is completely skills-based and tailored to each child’s individual needs, interests, and stage of development. We focus on building the confidence, independence, communication, social, and practical skills children need for their next educational journey — whether that’s school based nursery or reception.

Planting sunflower seeds this week 🌻
The children enjoyed planting sunflower seeds and learning all about how flowers grow. They carefully filled their pots with soil, planted their seeds, and watered them gently. We talked about what plants need to grow — sunshine, water, and care — and the children were excited to make predictions about whose sunflower will grow the tallest! 🌱☀️
This activity supported many areas of learning within the EYFS, including:
🌼 Understanding the World – learning about nature, growth, and caring for living things.
🌼 Physical Development – using fine motor skills to scoop soil, hold seeds, and pour water carefully.
🌼 Communication and Language – discussing the planting process and describing what they observed.
🌼 Mathematics – counting seeds, measuring soil, and comparing growth over time.
🌼 Personal, Social and Emotional Development – developing patience, responsibility, and confidence through caring for their own plant.
We can’t wait to watch our sunflowers grow over the next few weeks! 🌻💛

A child used play dough to make “monkey costumes” for the figures while singing and acting out 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed 🐵
What looks like simple play is actually supporting so many important skills:
creativity and imagination
language and storytelling
fine motor skills through squeezing and shaping play dough
problem solving and planning
confidence in sharing ideas
sensory exploration
The child used symbolic thinking — turning ordinary figures into “monkeys” using their own creative ideas. This kind of child-led play is such an important part of learning and development.

The children had a wonderful time watching the goats during our childminders group visit 🐐🌿
The children were fascinated observing how the goats moved, ate, and interacted with each other. Experiences like this are so valuable for early childhood development, helping children to build confidence, curiosity, and communication skills through real-life learning opportunities.
Watching and talking about animals encourages: • Language development through new words and conversations
• Social skills as the children share excitement and experiences together
• Emotional development by learning gentle behaviour and empathy towards animals
• Understanding of the world through hands-on experiences in nature
• Confidence and curiosity as they explore new environments
It was lovely to see the children so engaged, asking questions, pointing things out to their friends, and enjoying the outdoor experience together. These simple moments often create the biggest learning opportunities 💚

Watching children play in fountains is more than just summer fun — it’s a powerful part of healthy development. 💦☀️
Splashing, running, balancing, and exploring water helps children build coordination, strength, and confidence. Sensory play with water also supports brain development, creativity, and problem-solving skills. As they laugh, experiment, and interact with others, they’re developing communication, social skills, and emotional resilience too.
Most importantly, fountain play encourages children to be active, curious, and fully present in the moment — creating joyful memories while learning through play.
Sometimes the simplest moments bring the biggest developmental benefits. 💙

Have you ever thought about how your child will learn to socialise in a childminder setting?
In this nurturing environment, children have the opportunity to truly thrive. They build strong, secure bonds with a consistent caregiver, rather than navigating the uncertainty that can come with frequent staff changes. Within a small, home-like setting, they form close, meaningful friendships with peers, helping them feel safe, valued, and understood.
At the same time, children are gently encouraged to grow in confidence beyond this familiar space. Through outings to playgroups and new environments, they learn to engage with larger groups while always having the reassurance of returning to a calm, supportive setting. This balance helps even the most reserved children develop social skills at their own pace, with security and confidence at the heart of their experience.

We had a wonderful visit to the farm this morning where the children met a variety of animals including baby goats (kids), ducks, sheep, donkeys and rabbits. The experience was full of excitement and curiosity as the children observed, listened and talked about what they saw.
This visit supported the EYFS in many ways. It encouraged Communication and Language as children learned new vocabulary and shared their thoughts. It promoted Understanding the World by helping them explore animals and their environments. The hands-on experience supported Personal, Social and Emotional Development, building confidence and encouraging gentle, caring behaviour towards living things. It also enhanced Physical Development through walking, exploring and interacting with the farm setting.
Overall, it was a rich, engaging experience that brought learning to life.

This afternoon we enjoyed the spring sunshine in the garden, watching bubbles float and blow in the wind. The children loved chasing and popping them, developing their physical skills, coordination, and communication and language as they described what they could see. It was also a great way to explore understanding the world, noticing how the wind moves objects.
We also retold the story of The Hungry Caterpillar using props. The children engaged well, recalling events, sequencing the story, and counting the foods. This supported literacy, mathematics, and expressive arts and design, while encouraging imagination and confidence.

We’ve had some very special visitors in our setting this week… tiny caterpillars! 🐛
The children have been fascinated watching them wriggle, eat, and grow a little bigger each day. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be observing their incredible transformation as they form chrysalides and eventually emerge as beautiful butterflies 🦋
This experience offers so many wonderful learning opportunities. The children are developing their understanding of the natural world, learning about life cycles, growth, and change in a hands-on and meaningful way. It also encourages patience, curiosity, and gentle care as they learn to observe living creatures respectfully.
We’ve been using lots of descriptive language, counting the caterpillars, and talking about what they might need to grow. It’s been lovely to see the children so engaged, asking questions, and sharing their excitement with one another.
We can’t wait to see the butterflies emerge and release them together—such a magical moment for everyone!
