🐝 Last Tuesday, the children had their first Forest School session with Anna🌲. We were learning about how we can take care of the birds that live around us πŸ¦πŸ¦β€β¬›. We helped make nests, made them food - pushing sunflower seeds into apple pieces and spreading lard onto cardboard cut outs, pressing seeds on top πŸͺΉ. Finally we each made a pot using clay, to put water in for them to drink.

On Wednesday, George and Artie the Alpacas came in for a visit. The children had the fantastic opportunity to feed them both carrots πŸ₯• and enjoyed stroking their heads and necks to see how fluffy they wereπŸ¦™.

On Friday we had Baby Ballet with Heather. The children showed us their pointy toes and went on a summer holiday with the teddy bears. 🩰🌞🧸.

🐝 Last week we continued to develop and strengthen our fine motor skills . We have explored and manipulated kinetic sand, stacked towers using paper cups and found the matching shape to complete the puzzle🧩. We made bridges using paper cups and lolly sticks, and balanced small figurines on top.

On Tuesday Coach Holly joined us for a Football Fun Factory session. The children matched coloured cones to the colours found on flags and filled big cones with balls before kicking them everywhere ⚽️. At the end the parachute came out, which is always a favourite! πŸͺ‚

After enjoying reading 'Shark in the Parks', the children made their own telescope πŸ” - just like Timothy Pope's!

On Wednesday, the children enjoyed strawberry picking on our trip to Felderland Farm πŸ“πŸšœ. They learnt how to correctly pick them and there were so many bright red strawberries to choose from. Everyone had a fantastic time and a full punnet of strawberries to take home. We even brought some back for snack time to feast on the next day.

Once our caterpillars πŸ› had formed their chrysalis', it didn't take long before they emerged as beautiful Painted Lady butterflies. We fed all 7 of them orange 🍊, before everyone went into the garden for their release. The children were very excited, as one by one they saw the butterflies flap their wings and fly off into the sky πŸ¦‹.

Our Characteristics of Effective Learning focus in Playing and Exploring is using our senses to explore the world around us. Within Active Learning, persisting towards a goal when challenges occur, and in Critical Thinking checking how well our activities are going.

Last week our theme was 'Parks and Nature Walks'. We went for a walk to the park where the children enjoyed the slide and swings, before exploring the rest of the field πŸ›. Later on in the week we also walked to the duck pond, to watch the ducks and see what other wildlife we could find πŸ¦†πŸ¦‹.

The children have explored a range of activities to develop their fine motor skills, including threading and rolling and cutting playdough. We have been creative making ladybirds by printing with apples 🍎🐞 and decorated a paper plate turtle for Sea Turtle day.

On Monday we moved and danced in our Baby Balley session 🩰 and on Thursday the children were fascinated by the arrival of our caterpillars πŸ›. We are all patiently waiting for them to grow bigger!

🐝 Last Monday we celebrated Oceans day, by creating beautiful sealife artwork using different shades of blue and stamps 🌊🐠🦈. The children enjoyed our silly scarves, as we waved them around to develop their gross motor skills.

We continued our CafΓ© topic, making pizzas - putting tomato sauce onto the base and adding toppings πŸ•. We also crafted our own pizzas, painting a paper plate brown for the base and sticking on different materials to represent different toppings πŸ–Œ.

🐝 Our topic term 6 is 'Place to visit', where we will focus on a different place every two weeks - starting off with cafΓ©s β˜•οΈπŸ°. We have created our own 'Busy Bee's CafΓ©' for the children to role-play ordering from the menu and serving food. Our focus story is 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' πŸ…πŸ«–.

Last week we practised spreading as we made jam sandwiches, collaged to decorate a cupcake and enjoyed pretend play picnics in the garden πŸ₯ͺ🧁🧺. We practised our patterns, identifying and continuing them, as well as making our own using manipulatives. Finally we created symmetrical butterflies by painting, folding and printing - these have been used to decorate our display board for this term πŸ¦‹.

Our characteristic of effective learning focus in Playing and Exploring has been acting out experiences with other people. Within Active Learning, maintaining focus on an activity for a period of time, and in Thinking Critically developing ideas of sequences.
