Take 1 pumpkin, 1 mini hammer and plenty of bamboo golf tees and you have a wonderful activity that engages your children. So many different lessons from this one activity,hand eye coordination, concentration, perseverance, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, and many more.

Do you know why leaves change colour in autumn? Trees are preparing themselves for winter and go into hibernation, the stop making chlorophyll so the green colour disappears, showing up the oranges and yellow (the carotenes and xanthophyll). Some trees have other pigments too, like reds and purples like maples and dogwoods. Finally they all fade to leave the brown leaf which usually goes into the ground and mulches down for food for the tree and other creatures and plants surrounding it.

Today we used some old egg boxes, coloured in the insides and went on a colour hunt. Perfect with all the changing autumnal colours in the woods.
