Real life maths question.

Myself and Mrs Elgar were cooking our own individual meals last night. Each recipe was for two people (one of those ones that come in a box delivered to your house)

We combined our rice and cooked it together. So four portions of rice.

I took my one portion from the pan and the question is how much of the remaining rice was hers?

Many of you will know that I am a massive fan of the area model of multiplication in my lessons.

We do it a lot for many reasons, this is one of them. It is setting your student up a great understanding of future maths.

10 week course 3x20mins lessons a week, practice material and resources given. £9 an hour.
Course 1 is Mon, Tues and Thurs 10:50 - 11:10
Course 2 Is Mon, Weds and Fri 09:40 - 10:00
Number sense is the flexible, intuitive understanding of how numbers work and relate to each other.
This course is an entry level course for 5-7 year olds and focusses on addition and subtraction within 10.
If your child calculates by counting up and down one at a time they are caught in the 'counting trap'.
Children with number sense escape from that trap and find maths much easier

For most lessons I teach there is a 5 question 'diagnostic quiz' Here my year 4 class has shown a great grasp of rounding. I can see at a glance where any problems may lie and then address that in class.

This way your learner gets individual attention. They struggled with the practice between lessons? I am going to help them.

They struggle with an idea during a lesson? I can see that on their whiteboard and I am going to help them.

Learners do not get left behind.
