You may have noticed our Year 6 children heading off with some chocolate bars this week.

Eating chocolate before an exam is often considered good by some people for a few reasons, although individual responses to chocolate can vary. Here are some reasons why people might believe that eating chocolate before an exam is beneficial:

Mood Enhancement: Chocolate contains substances that can trigger the release of endorphins in the brain, which are chemicals that can help improve mood and reduce stress. This mood enhancement may help some people feel more relaxed and positive before an exam.

Improved Focus: Some studies suggest that the flavonoids in dark chocolate may improve cognitive function and increase blood flow to the brain. This could potentially enhance focus and concentration, which are important during exams.

Energy Boost: Chocolate contains caffeine and sugar, which can provide a temporary energy boost. The caffeine in chocolate is a mild stimulant that can help increase alertness and improve mental performance in some individuals.

Comfort and Stress Relief: For many people, eating chocolate is associated with feelings of comfort and pleasure. This can help reduce feelings of anxiety and stress before an exam, making it easier to focus and perform well.

Memory Enhancement: Some research suggests that the flavonoids in dark chocolate may have a positive effect on memory and cognitive function. This could potentially benefit students studying for exams.

Whatever your reasons, enjoy!! 😋

🎨 Maths You Can See! 🎨

This week our amazing Year 6 children have been exploring percentages in a fun and visual way 👀✨

We’ve been:
🟦 Using base boards to see what percent means (out of 100!)
🟩 Shading and comparing parts to bring percentages to life
🟨 Linking visuals to fractions and decimals.

It’s been fantastic watching those “aha!” moments when pupils realise…

👉 “Ohhh, I can see it now!”

That’s the power of visual learning 💡

🐣 Easter-Themed Learning Fun! 🥕

This session combined creativity, movement, and revision through a fun Easter egg hunt activity!

The children searched for hidden eggs, each containing letters to unscramble, helping reinforce their spelling skills based on previous learning. This encouraged them to think carefully about those tricky words we have been practising while staying active and engaged.

We also brought in a sensory element by practising writing in the sand using carrots 🥕—a playful and hands-on way to support fine motor skills and letter formation. This activity was especially helpful for reinforcing correct spelling in a memorable way.

✨ Skills covered:
• Spelling and word recognition
• Revisiting and applying phonics sounds
• Fine motor development
• Sensory learning and engagement

A lovely mix of learning and seasonal fun—well done everyone! 🌼
