Had a lovely consult with Nikki and her twins, Ida and Leila, this morning! We were looking at tandem carrying options and also took time to perfect single carries. Of course this was just purely work and I didn't enjoy my cuddle with Leila at all 😂

Hi everyone, happy 2019! I don't post very often (I've just noticed my last post was in 2017 😬) but I am still here and still offering consultations! Apart from getting lots of hands on experience at meets I'm also still carrying my youngest now and then, had him in a wrap just before Christmas when his legs got tired on a walk and even managed to take a picture 😊

I've had a fantastic week or so starting with the The Northern Sling Exhibition last weekend, followed by running my first Facilitating Kangaroo Care session at the Lancashire Women's and Newborn Centre's NICU during the week, and finished off this weekend at the Baby and Toddler Show, EventCity Manchester helping at Cheeky Rascals / Izmi Baby's sling library stand, It was lovely to see Lifft Slings at the show too :) I have gotten to meet new and also catch up with familiar faces who have all been inspiring. I'm feeling very motivated right now and looking forward to the week ahead :)

Today has been rather exciting! I ran my first 'Facilitating Kangaroo Care' training session with six members of staff on the Lancashire Women's and Newborn Centre's NICU this afternoon. This is part of the project we have been working on with the unit to get more babies benefiting from skin to skin contact over a longer period of time.
During the session the participants were given an introduction to babywearing in general and we went through using the kangaroo care tops they will be working with. When trying the tops they had the chance to experience using them as a parent too, getting to see and feel the difference of having the top to secure baby. I'd like to say a big thank you to Vija Design UK Kangaroo Care/Skin-to-Skin Garments for their help ever since we first got in touch with them. Nicole and Leigh have gone above and beyond to make sure we have what we need.
It's wonderful to work with such an enthusiastic and forward thinking group of people, from the initial meetings and discussions to now putting the project into practice. With two more training sessions to go we're now very close to having the kangaroo care tops available to parents on the ward!

I had three new additions arrive last week, Renates even included a yummy treat and Christmas card :) these premie sized dolls will be used for our kangaroo care project at Burnley General's NICU to help train staff and also give parents confidence when it comes to holding their own babies.

What a fantastic day and what a lovely group! We covered the babywearing safety, good positioning, and benefits. Talked about common misconceptions, planned a perfect sling library session, as well as learning practical techniques for the pocket wrap cross carry (stretch wrap) and the front wrap cross carry (woven wrap). We also looked at the other carrier types available and their relative merits. It was fascinating to hear about everyone's babywearing journeys, all different but driven by the same desire to be a loving and responsive parent. Next they will be completing the online part of the course with Olga Nguyen covering the ins and outs of supporting parents with empathy. For now it's time for some well deserved rest and relaxation for all of us I think!

Looking forward to welcoming my course participants shortly on the Trageschule UK babywearing advocate course I'm running today. It's in conjunction with Emily from Wearthemwithlove, who is running her course down in Oxfordshire :)
