BT are reporting a significant increase in accidental calls to the 999 service following a recent Android update that triggers an SOS when a button on the side of your phone is pressed five times.

If you have an Android phone, you can check your emergency settings to turn off the functionality added in the latest update.

Go to ‘Settings’ then ‘Safety and Emergency’ and slide the button which says ‘Emergency SOS’ to switch the functionality off.

Calls to 999 where the operator cannot hear anyone on the line (silent calls) are never just ignored. Call handlers will then need to spend valuable time trying to call you back to check whether you need help.

If you do accidentally dial 999, please don’t hang up. If possible, please stay on the line and let the operator know it was an accident and that you don’t need any assistance.

As always, if a crime is in progress or if there is an immediate risk to person or property, always dial 999.

If a crime is not in progress, then please consider reporting the incident online via your local force’s website in the first instance. Alternatively, you can call 101.

My last child has left the building.
9 glorious, stressful, incredible years.

Today is my last ever day as a childminder. It’s not something I thought would ever happen as I loved my job and the flexibility it gave me and my family, but it is time to move on and enjoy being with the bigger children in schools across Blackburn with Darwen. The thing I’m most looking forward to is making new friends in new staff rooms and leaving the house to go to work. I’ll miss being home with Emma and the minded kids, but my new adventure awaits 🍎☺️

If anyone is still using my EY number to claim child tax credits/Universal credit or student funding to pay for childcare then you need to knock it on the head. It’s fraud and I’m still getting letters from HMRC and Student finance asking for details of children they still think I look after. You know who you are, I won’t cover for you.

So that’s it. Notice has been served for all my parents and it’s time to wind down the childminding. It’s been an interesting 9 years.
