Every young person who joins St John Ambulance starts somewhere.

As a **Youth Leader in East Lancashire**, you could be one of the people who helps make that happen.

Our **Badgers and Cadets** aren't simply attending a youth group.

🚨 **WHEN THE CROWD NEEDS HELP, WE DON'T WAIT FOR THE CROWD TO MOVE. WE GO TO THEM.** 💚

Ever wondered where your St John Ambulance journey could take you?

A **Medical Response Team (MRT)** is a specialist team of **four active St John Ambulance volunteers** who work together within crowds to respond to medical emergencies and assist with patient extractions.

Working as part of an MRT means being part of a close-knit team with a clear purpose:

🚨 Respond to medical emergencies within crowds
👥 Move through busy environments to reach where help is needed
🤝 Work as a coordinated four-person team
🚑 Assist with patient extractions from crowded areas

It's a very different challenge from simply standing on the edge of an event waiting for someone to come to you.

**The team goes to the patient.**

But there's an important part to understand:

**MRT is a specialist progression opportunity — it isn't a role you simply join as a new volunteer.**

You need to be a **current, active St John Ambulance volunteer** and progress towards the specialist role.

That means your journey could start somewhere completely different.

You could join St John to learn first aid, help at events, meet people and serve your community.

Then you can develop your knowledge, skills and operational experience.

And eventually, you could find yourself working as part of a specialist MRT.

You don't have to know today whether MRT is where you'll end up.

You just need to take the **first step**.

🚲 **WHEN THE ROAD ENDS, THE CRU KEEPS GOING.** 💚

Ever wondered where your St John Ambulance volunteering could take you?

In **East Lancashire**, established St John volunteers can work towards joining our specialist **Cycle Responder Unit (CRU)**.

The CRU provides a different way of getting to where help is needed — particularly at busy events, in congested areas and in places where motor vehicles can't easily reach.

🚲 Get through crowded areas
🚲 Navigate restricted access
🚲 Reach locations where vehicles may struggle
🚲 Bring first-aid capability closer to where it's needed

But being part of the CRU isn't simply about being able to ride a bike.

It's about being a trained and established St John volunteer who wants to **develop further, take on a specialist role and be part of a team that can operate in environments where a vehicle isn't always the best way to get through.**

**And you don't join the CRU on day one.**

Your journey starts by becoming an established volunteer in another St John role. You build your knowledge, skills and experience, and then, when you're ready and opportunities are available, you can work towards joining the Cycle Responder Unit.

So whether you're completely new to St John or already part of our organisation, **there's a journey ahead of you.**

🚑 **WHERE COULD YOUR ST JOHN JOURNEY TAKE YOU?**

You might join St John Ambulance wanting to learn first aid, meet people and help your local community.

But what if that was just the beginning?

In **East Lancashire**, volunteering with St John Ambulance can give you the opportunity to develop your skills and progress towards supporting NHS ambulance services.

Depending on your training, experience, role and the opportunities available, this can include work such as:

🚨 **Surge support for 999 services**
👶 **Neonatal transfers**
🚑 **Patient transfer services**
🏥 **And much more**

This is volunteering with a real operational purpose — supporting patients and helping ambulance services when additional support is needed.

And you don't have to be an experienced St John volunteer to start your journey.
