We’ve had an amazing day at Deep Sea World. We had great fun going round and round and round in the tunnel singing Baby Shark and counting how many sharks and rays there were!

It’s day 3 of World Nursery Rhyme Week and the turn of ‘Five Little Speckled Frogs’.

Counting songs and finger play rhymes are brilliant for encouraging early numeracy skills and fine motor control. By introducing children to the concept of counting, you encourage a familiarity with number names, number patterns and values.

We set up our log outside with our speckled frogs and lily pads. The children had fun counting the frogs, singing the song and throwing the frogs onto their lily pads! We then read the lovely book Frog on a Log

Splish splash and welcome to day 2 of World Nursery Rhyme Week. Today’s rhyme is ‘1,2,3,4,5 (once I caught a fish alive)’.

This rhyme was first recorded in Mother Goose's Melody around 1765 and featured a Hare, not a fish!

We love the rhyming element in this one and it’s the perfect counting song for our young rhymers.

Today we went to the forest to sing our rhyme and try and stay dry! This didn’t work so well when the children found the biggest puddles ever and had a ball jumping and running in them! We played a fishing game catching fishes 🎣 and one even bit the children’s fingers!, made fishy shapes and coloured in fishy pictures 🐠 🐟
