CHRISTMAS ARRIVES IN BARNSLEY TONIGHT // Barnsley kicks off its festive season with a weekend full of dazzling events starting tonight, Friday 22nd November.

The Barnsley Carol Giant Projection will light up The Glass Works Square, showcasing Arthur Godfrey’s ‘Christmas Eve’ along with live performances from Barnsley Singers. The projection will run every 30 minutes from 5pm to 8.30pm tonight.

Tomorrow brings even more excitement with the Illuminated Parade. The parade, featuring inflatable Strobilophones, colourful lanterns, music, and dancers, will begin at 6.30pm from Midland Street and wind through the town centre to The Glass Works Square.

Also, don’t miss the Light Art Trail, featuring interactive installations across Barnsley’s Civic, College, Cooper Gallery, Library @ the Lightbox, and more.

This is Nicholas Saunderson - Barnsley's very own Stephen Hawking's....

Smallpox left him blind as a child but it didn't stop Saunderson from becoming a leading scientist and mathematician. It’s said he learnt to read by running his fingers over gravestones in his home village of Thurlstone and nearby Pen*stone.

He was a Lucasian Professor at Cambridge university a post also held by Isaac Newton, Charles Babbage and Stephen Hawking.
