A huge thank you to all of our children, families and staff for your incredible generosity in supporting our Harvest Collection. We are so grateful for the many donations received, which will be passed on to the Dartford Larder to help support local individuals and families in need.

Harvest is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the importance of helping others and we are incredibly proud of how our school community has come together to support this important cause. Thank you for helping us spread kindness and make a positive difference in our local community. πŸ’š

πŸ₯– 🍞 Bread Making in Year 6 🍞 πŸ₯–

Our Year 6 pupils rolled up their sleeves this week and made bread to investigate the role of yeast and microorganisms. As part of their Science learning, they explored how yeast works as a fungus to make dough rise and discussed the importance of bacteria in our everyday lives. A wonderful example of learning through practical experience... and a delicious reward at the end! πŸ‘πŸ”¬πŸž

🌱 🌍 Eco Team Climate Audit 🌍 🌱

Yesterday, we welcomed Claire from the Learning by Landscapes team into our school to work with our Eco Leads and Eco Team. Together, the children took part in a climate audit, using a range of equipment, including wind speed and temperature monitors, to collect data and learn more about our local environment.

The session encouraged the children to think like environmental scientists, exploring ways we can make our school even more sustainable and environmentally friendly. They demonstrated fantastic teamwork and curiosity throughout the afternoon and already have some brilliant ideas for developing our outdoor spaces even further.

Well done to our Eco Team for their enthusiasm, teamwork and commitment to making a positive difference! πŸŒ±πŸ’š

🌟 School Council Begin Leadership Journey! 🌟

This week our newly appointed School Council came together for their first leadership training session. The children enjoyed learning about what it means to be a leader and how they can represent the views of their classmates with confidence and responsibility.

Throughout the year, the School Council will work closely with staff and pupils to help improve school life, share ideas, organise projects and ensure that every child has a voice. They will be positive role models who help make a difference across our school community.

If you have an idea, suggestion or something you would like the School Council to discuss, please speak to your class representative. Together, we can make our school even better! 😊

πŸ’œπŸŽ’ Regulation Backpack πŸŽ’πŸ’œ

At Westgate, we know that children learn best when they feel calm, safe and emotionally regulated. That's why we are delighted to introduce our new Regulation Backpacks across the school.

As a proud TGMC School, every class will use these practical tools and strategies to support self-regulation, resilience and emotional wellbeing. The backpacks help children identify how they are feeling and contain a range of practical resources and strategies they can choose from to help them regulate their emotions, make positive choices and show they are ready to learn.

We are excited to see the positive impact these resources will have across our school. Please look out for further information about the Parent Portal that will be shared soon so you can access these resources at home. Together, we can help every child flourish, thrive and be ready to learn. πŸ’œ

πŸ‘– Jeans for Genes Day 🧬

We are pleased to announce that once again we shall be raising money for Jeans for Genes by hosting a β€˜Wear Your Jeans to School’ day on Friday 18th September 2026. Your child is invited to come to school wearing their jeans with their school top, jumper and school shoes this Friday.

Jeans for Genes is a charity that supports people with a variety of genetic conditions. Jeans for Genes aims to help individuals and their families to access the right support at times when it’s needed most. By taking part in Jeans for Genes Day, we can all work together to make this ambition a reality. Wear jeans πŸ‘–, change lives 😊

πŸŽ₯ Saturday Digital Crew πŸŽ₯

We’re pleased to share an exciting opportunity for young people aged 8–16. end2end TV is running its popular Saturday Digital Crew programme again this autumn, giving young people hands-on experience in filming, presenting, editing and working as part of a real production crew.

The course is a great way for students to build confidence, develop communication and teamwork skills, explore their creativity and gain practical digital media experience. They’ll work together on real productions, learn how things work behind the scenes and have the opportunity to take their ideas from concept through to finished content.

Sessions start on Saturday 19 September and run from 10:30am–12:30pm for children ages 8-16 at Hurstmere School in Sidcup. Visit their website to find out more: https://www.end2endtv.co.uk/service-page/join-our-saturday-digital-crew

πŸ“šβœ¨ YR, Y1 and Y2 Meet the Gruffalo Granny! βœ¨πŸ“š

Today our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes ended the week with a treat taking part in an online event where they met Julia Donaldson’s new book character - Gruffalo Granny! 🀩

They loved listening to the wonderful new story written by Julia Donaldson, but the highlight of the webinar was watching Axel Scheffler, the illustrator of The Gruffalo, draw the famous character right before their eyes. πŸŽ¨πŸ‘€ wow! The children were amazed to see one of their favourite storybook characters come to life!

Experiences like this help inspire a love of reading and spark children's aspirations, and it was lovely to see the children immersed into storytelling.
