Please could everyone read and contribute to Kent County Council's consultation. KCC want to change the designation of special schools for autistic children to severe and complex. This means children with communication and interaction needs with an EHCP will no longer be able to access specialist school and will be made to remain in mainstream.

This will increase mental health issues there is already not capacity for, reduce attendance, and create a greater number of children school refusing due to anxiety, overheard and other unmet needs.

Last year 1 in 10 teachers left the profession over 40,000 teachers. This will exacerbate the exodus. Today, when asked, KCC did not have an answer about teacher retention and adding further pressure to teachers in mainstream schools. It was acknowledged teacher workload is already a problem.

KCC say they've consulted child voice, but they've interviewed 63 children out of 5480 children attending specialist setting. This is a huge failure.

They say they won't move existing children who are thriving at their current specialist settings. However, today Alison Famer- Principle EP could not confirm this would not be the case in the future. The admission criteria for the schools would change, annual reviews would happen and children could be moved if they no longer fit the need of the school.

It should be noted that specialist provision for profound, severe and complex needs is absolutely needed. But disregarding one need for another is not the way forward.

Please support us by answering the consultation and sharing this post. Read carefully as KCC have written the questions ro support their consultation. Anyone can contribute, you don't have to live in Kent. Let's stop this before there's a national domino effect!

We are asking for your views as part of the review of state-funded special schools. The proposals are about the future designations of special schools, the supporting admission guidance and a model of “school-to-school” support. The designation of a special school shows

I don't know about you, but this makes me feel MUCH better!

"TV will rot her brain!" "You let him eat french fries?!?" "Raising kids is a piece of cake, right?" Parenting myths are everywhere, and they're insidious for parents raising kids with ADHD, who often feel judged for their kids' behavior already. Let go of these harmful untruths that ignore your chi...

An insightful and helpful read.

He or she has ADHD — a neurological condition with symptoms too often mistaken for willful "bad behavior." But research shows that criticizing your child is likely to make her symptoms worse....
