🤩 I use a multi-sensory approach to teaching phonics/spellings, as lots of children need this to help to embed all the different phonemes and spelling rules. Did you know there are 8 different ways to spell the long 'a' vowel sound?! Children need to be given plenty of opportunities to recognise, hear and make all of the different sounds before they can accurately apply them to their own writing ✍️ These are some of the ways we'll be practising our spellings this afternoon...the cloud dough is always a big hit!

What a full-on, fun and fantastic week I've had - can you tell I've been teaching alliteration?! This week, we've worked on:

⭐️Money - recognising the different coins, making the same amount but using different coins and using all four operations to solve problems. Often children will say that they can't do decimal numbers - pop a £ in front and suddenly they've cracked it! 👛
⭐️We've been party planners and used our knowledge and understanding of money to create party bags for different customers!🥳
⭐️We've looked at fractions and found out how to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers, and back again. Lots of cake, pizza and chocolate sharing! 🍕🎂🍫
⭐️We've developed our understanding of hyperboles and used them to make our writing a million times better!✍️
⭐️We've worked on our spellings, especially those high frequency and tricky words✍️
⭐️We've been sentence detectives and searched for adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors and fronted adverbial phrases🕵️‍♀️
⭐️We've developed our inference skills and used the clues in the text to answer the questions 📖

We had a fantastic English session! Firstly, we used all of our creative writing skills to write a variety of sentences. We managed to include similes, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions and a fronted adverbial phrase. Then we explored the poem 'Quack' written by Charles Caudsley

🥳Happy New Year🥳
I've had a great start to the new year and some of my students have loved solving this maths challenge based around the new Chicken Run movie on Netflix. This is such a fun way for the children to practise some of their maths skills and a great way for me to assess their understanding. The children don't even realise that they're actually doing any work...win!

🌟Had a fantastic final week of learning before the Christmas holidays 🎅 Some of our learning has included helping Father Christmas out of a few difficulties! We've also had lots of fun learning our spellings - we've written them in sand, used the secret spy pen and splattered the bugs! 🪰The children have all worked so hard! 🥳

🎄I had great fun teaching the Grinch today! We were learning how to improve our sentences using adjectives, fronted adverbials, subordinate conjunctions and clauses. The Grinch turned a boring sentence into one filled with Christmas magic 🌟🎅

Such sad news today. I'm a huge fan of Benjamin Zephaniah's work. This is a favourite in my family, as it beautifully tells the story of Trinidadian musician, Mona Baptiste, and other brave members of the Windrush generation. This story resonates with my son, as one of his grandmas was part of that generation. Keep singing Benjamin Zephaniah ❤️
