Some questions stay.

They return in the quiet moments. On walks. Between meetings. While making tea.

Busy life is very good at carrying us past them.

Perhaps thatโ€™s why protected thinking time matters. Not because the question is demanding an immediate answer, but because it might be trying to tell us something.

Anger can point towards a boundary.
Grief can point towards love.
Frustration can point towards action.

The questions that keep returning to us deserve the same curiosity.

Not every question needs solving.
Some simply need enough space to be heard.

We love stories about brave leaps.

The big decision.
The bold move.
The moment everything changes.

But most growth I've witnessed, both personally and professionally, looks rather different.

It looks like a series of small steps.

A conversation you were nervous to have.

Trying something new for ten minutes.

Asking for help.

Taking part, even when you're unsure.

Putting yourself just beyond what feels comfortable, then discovering you can cope there after all.

Then doing it again.

And again.

Over time, those small experiences accumulate. Confidence grows. Capacity grows. What once felt impossible becomes possible.

Not because you forced yourself to leap.

Because you gave yourself the conditions to grow.

Sometimes the most sustainable progress is not dramatic at all.

It's simply the next step.

I think many leaders are craving a different texture of leadership.

Not less ambition.
Not less impact.
Not stepping away from meaningful work.

But perhaps leadership with more room for:
thought,
creativity,
honesty,
expansion,
humanity,
and a life that still feels connected to the person living it.

Over the years, Iโ€™ve worked with many thoughtful leaders who are highly capable outwardly, yet quietly aware that parts of themselves have been left waiting โ€œuntil things calm downโ€.

Often those parts never stopped wanting to grow.

That noticing has become part of the reason Iโ€™m beginning to create The Potting Shed ๐ŸŒฑ

Not every workplace conflict begins with conflict.

Sometimes it begins with:
being overwhelmed
misreading tone
processing differently
masking for too long
feeling unsafe to ask for whatโ€™s needed
or trying to survive environments never designed with difference in mind.

When organisations only respond at the point of grievance, performance concern, or breakdown, they often miss the quieter story underneath.

Neuroinclusion is not about lowering standards.

Itโ€™s about understanding humans well enough to create workplaces where more people can function, contribute, communicate and thrive sustainably.

That changes conversations.
And often, outcomes too.

Iโ€™ve moved offices.

Not dramatically. Not permanently. Just experimentally.

My growing curiosity around space, containers and the environments we place ourselves in has led me to reconsider my own working space at home.

Working from home has many benefits, but it can also mean our spaces are shared, interrupted or never fully โ€œoursโ€. I noticed that in myself.

So Iโ€™m trying something different: a smaller, more self contained room with a single purpose. A space that feels calmer, clearer and more protected.

And honestly? I do not yet know if itโ€™s the right fit.

But sometimes you cannot know whether an environment supports your growth until you spend time inside it.

I think leadership, coaching and change can be similar. Sometimes it is less about making a huge leap and more about trying a different container and noticing what shifts ๐ŸŒฑ

Thereโ€™s something in yesterdayโ€™s forgotten cup.

A seedling of change ๐ŸŒฑ

Sometimes growth does not begin because life suddenly becomes calm.

Sometimes it begins because, for a moment, there is simply a little more light, space or room to breathe.

Even inside busy lives, pressured roles and constant responsiveness, part of us often still knows when something is no longer sustainable.

Not everything needs uprooting overnight.

But thoughtful growth does need conditions where it can start to hold.
