The Thermal Insulation Contractors Association was formed in 1959 to promote its membership and show correctly applied thermal insulation will save energy

The industry worldwide consumes about 26 per cent of the world's energy and produces about 50 per cent of all CO2 emissions. Experts know there is huge potential to improve these numbers by implementing sustainable insulation systems. Industrial and commercial insulation is the first step to create energy efficiency and energy conservation (economically and environmentally)
There is a lack of awareness that industrial and commercial insulation comes with an amazingly short payback periods. This creates a ‘win-win' situation for the environment as well as for investors and plant operators. Insulation should be at the top of the agenda as the first step to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. TICA is committed to using the combined strength of its members to do all it can to protect, improve and promote what correctly applied thermal insulation can do to help reduce cost and CO2 emissions

Are you interested in supporting the next generation of thermal insulators?

We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about the industry and keen to pass on their skills and experience, playing a key role in shaping the future workforce.

Based at TICA House, Darlington, this hands-on role involves delivering training and assessment in thermal insulation and metal fabrication, helping apprentices develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to succeed in the industry.

You don’t need teaching or assessing qualifications to apply. If you have strong industry experience (TICA gold card or equivalent), full training will be provided to support you in gaining training/assessing qualifications on the job.

📍 Location: Darlington (DL1 4QB) – suitable for those within a commutable distance
💷 Salary: Up to £40,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)

Thermal Insulation Contractors Association - TICA is seeking an experienced and ambitious Head of Education and Skills to lead and futureproof our apprenticeship and commercial training provision.

📍 Location: TICA House, Darlington (DL1 4QB)
💼 Salary: £45,000–£55,000
🕒 Contract: Full time (with options for a condensed 4-day week)

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for shaping TICA’s education strategy across thermal insulation and asbestos removal training, overseeing apprenticeships, NVQs, quality assurance, Ofsted readiness, funding, and continuous improvement.

You’ll lead a growing education team, work closely with employers and stakeholders, and play a key role in developing the skilled workforce our industry needs now and in the future.

Workshop Technician – Darlington

We are recruiting a Workshop Technician to join the team at TICA House, Darlington.

This is a hands-on role supporting our National Training Centre, working alongside workshop staff and apprentices to help ensure our facilities run safely and smoothly. Full training will be provided, with clear opportunities for development and progression.

📍 Location: Darlington (DL1 4QB)
💷 Salary: £16,000–£26,000 per year (age dependent, in line with National Minimum Wage – April 2026 rates)
🗓 Closing date: 18 February 2026

In the lead-up to Apprenticeship Week, we’re highlighting the impact of apprenticeships on businesses. Richard Tippy, one of our members, shares how apprentices have helped him tackle workforce challenges.

With employers training thermal insulation apprentices increasing by 48% since 2023, more businesses are seeing the benefits of investing in apprentices for the first time.

Next week, TICA staff will be travelling across the country, meeting potential apprenticeship candidates, members, and non-members to discuss how apprenticeships can futureproof businesses.
