Learning in Action... Reception...

What an amazing start to Abbey Reception have had! 🌟

Everyone has settled in so well and has enjoyed exploring their new learning environment. We have had lots of fun discovering our outdoor areas, getting busy and creative in the classroom, and building new friendships along the way.

We have also begun our phonics journey, learning our first phonemes and developing our listening and sound awareness skills.

We are so proud of everyone and all they have achieved during their first weeks. 💛

🌟 A Fantastic Start to the New School Year! 🌟

We are incredibly proud of all our children for the way they have returned to school after the summer holidays. They have come back with positive attitudes, big smiles and a real enthusiasm for learning.

Across the school, children have worked hard, settled quickly into new routines and shown excellent behaviour, kindness and determination. It has been wonderful to see classrooms buzzing with learning and pupils giving their very best from day one.

Thank you to our families for your continued support in helping the children have such a successful start to the year. We are excited for all the opportunities, achievements and memorable experiences that lie ahead.

Well done, everyone! ⭐

Year 2... Learning in Action...

Making the most of the sunny weather and the football excitement around school, our children have taken part in a thrilling Year 2 World Cup competition. Pupils were split into teams representing different countries and have enjoyed some great matches. Keep an eye on Seesaw next week when we announce the winners! 🏆

In Geography, Year 2 have been learning all about Kenya. They used their knowledge to design and create beautiful African water pots, with the fantastic support of our parents.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this experience so special. 🌍🎨

Learning in Action... Year 1...

From exploring rhythm and accelerando in Music, to working collaboratively in English to build and perform stories, our Year 1 children have been busy developing their creativity and teamwork skills. 🎵📚

In PE, they practised their overarm throwing accuracy in athletics, while PSHE lessons focused on staying safe online through an internet safety quiz. 💻🎯

Well done, Year 1, for your enthusiasm, teamwork and brilliant effort across the curriculum! ⭐👏

Abbey School has done it again... Champion of Champions Girls Cup Final winners for the second year in a row. 🏆

Our girls were outstanding at Eastbourne last night. They played brilliantly as a team, gave 100% effort every second of every game, and showed incredible determination throughout.

With the team down a player, they had to compete with no substitutions, yet their hard work and resilience shone through.

A huge well done to the whole squad, you’ve made the school proud once again. 🏆🥇🏆

Celebrating Determination, Teamwork and Success!

A huge well done to our Year 4 and Year 6 pupils who took part in the Darlington Quad Kids athletics event at Eastbourne. They showed real determination across all four activities — the 400/500m run, howler throw, standing long jump and 70m sprint.

The Quad Kids week’s events were bigger than ever, with over 1,000 children taking part across three days — 21 schools on Monday, 26 on Wednesday and 18 schools on Friday. A fantastic celebration of sport and teamwork.

Every child should feel incredibly proud of what they achieved. Their teamwork, effort and attitude were outstanding. 🏅🏆🏅

Year 5 had an exciting day in York, stepping into the world of the Vikings at JORVIK, where they experienced an immersive experience bringing the Vikings to life. They also took part in a fascinating battle tactics workshop, learning how Vikings planned and prepared for combat.

A brilliant hands-on history experience full of learning and excitement!

Learning in Action... Reception...

This week, we had our Reception Sports Day. 🎖️

The children showed amazing resilience and good sportsmanship throughout the event. The activities included skills we have learned in our PE lessons, such as running, balancing, and control. It was wonderful to see how much the children have improved and how confidently they took part in each activity.

We are very proud of their enthusiasm, determination, and positive attitudes. Well done, Reception! 🏆
