Just wanted to share this with everyone! Our cross country runners did fantastically this afternoon. Isla (Y5) came 3rd out of around 80 girls in her race, Ivy (Y6) came 3rd out of 78 in her race, Charlie H (Y6) placed 4th in his race out of similar numbers above, just pipped to the post for that bronze medal right at the very end. These 3 will go on to represent Darlington at the Tees Valley Finals in a few weeks. Every child who attended showed amazing determination and made Whinfield proud!

As another brilliant school year comes to an end, we would like to thank all our pupils, families, carers and staff for their hard work, support and achievements. We wish everyone a happy, safe and relaxing summer holiday. See you in September!

KS2 had a brilliant time celebrating Mrs O’Callaghan and Mrs Boulton’s retirement. We wish them all the best. The school certainly won’t be as lively without you both!

The Y5 and Y6 boys and girls footballers took part in the Darlington Champions of Champions tournament at Eastbourne Sports Complex. Both teams qualified top of their group to qualify.
The girls team won two games and drew one in the round robin style group. This left them joint top of the group, however, unfortunately finishing as runners up on goal difference.
The boys drew two games and won one, finishing as runners up too missing out by 2 points on the first place spot.

Both teams were amazing and played some excellent football. They supported each other, showed character and worked tirelessly just as they have all year representing the football teams. We couldn't be prouder of them in how they've represent Whinfield this year and have consistently competed at the latter end of competitions.

Sadly, this is the final time many of our boys and girls will represent Whinfield. We hope they continue to progress in their sporting journeys and develop into the sports people we know they can be! Good luck to our year 6s and well done for your achievements over the past two years!

Well done to this week’s gem winners!

Pupils in 5/6AB have enjoyed an afternoon investigating circuits. They were tasked with testing whether the circuits were complete and would allow a current to flow, therefore lighting the bulbs or allowing the buzzer to make a sound! (A unanimous decision was made to limit the use of buzzers and how long they could be allowed to make their annoying sound!) They also spent time putting their creative skills to work creating their own circuit designs. Great use of concentration and problem solving powers too, well done!

A great big thank you to all the parents and carers who attended today’s summer show. You helped make it the most special one yet. We’ll be looking forward to next year when we can hopefully make things even bigger and better.

Year 4 had fun carrying out some field work today to answer the question ‘Would the Sphinx fit on our school field?’… in case you were wondering, the answer was yes!
