Tomorrow marks the beginning of Black History Month, a time when we recognise, celebrate and learn about the achievements, contributions and experiences of Black people throughout history and in our society today.

This morning, Mr Cummins led the whole school in a special Celebration of the Word to mark the beginning of Black History Month. Together, we reflected on how every person is uniquely created, valued and loved by God. We shared the words from Genesis 1:27:

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them.”

Throughout the month, our children will have opportunities to explore the lives of influential Black individuals, reflect on themes of equality, respect and inclusion, and celebrate the rich diversity that strengthens our communities.

We will be highlighting the contributions of figures such as Mary Seacole, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and Marcus Rashford, alongside many others who have helped shape the world around us.

As a Catholic school, Black History Month provides an important opportunity to reinforce our values of dignity, justice and respect for all, recognising that every person is created in the image and likeness of God.
