🧶Spinning Apprenticeships available🧶

Are you aged 18–25 and interested in learning a beautiful traditional skill?

I’m offering a free 6-week spinning apprenticeship right here in Dumfries and Galloway.

I have two spaces available for this first round of apprenticeships.

This is a relaxed, hands-on programme focused on spinning essentials using both drop spindles and traditional wheels, with a big emphasis on our wonderful local Scottish wool breeds. You’ll get to know the fibres that come from right here in our region and turn them into beautiful yarn.

Programme Details
• Duration: 6 weeks
• Time: 2 hours per week (flexible – evenings, weekends or after work, arranged to suit your schedule)
• Cost: Completely free
• Location: My studio in Glentrool Hive, Dumfries and Galloway (you’ll need to travel here) DG86SY.

What I’m Looking For
• You must commit to the full 6 weeks
• You’re happy to be photographed and featured in promotion (social media, etc.)
• You’re enthusiastic and open to learning

My Approach
I’m a fun, non-technique-essentialist teacher. With three years of spinning under my belt, I still clearly remember what it’s like to be a complete beginner. I focus on the fundamentals in a way that actually makes sense when you’re starting out — no intimidating perfectionism, just joy, creativity, and real progress.

My Aims
I want to help keep these heritage skills alive by teaching the next generation. Together we’ll make good use of local wool, create a welcoming space for creativity, and build a friendly network of young spinners in the area.

Other apprenticeships will be available throughout the year — so if you miss out this time, keep an eye on my website and social media for future opportunities.

If this sounds like something you’d love to try, please apply via the online form below. Places are limited and applications will be reviewed on enthusiasm and commitment.

I can’t wait to spin with you!

Apply on my website before 19th July
