One on the best, and most humbling things about playing guitar is that no matter how 'good' you get, there's always more you can learn. It's a beautiful journey with no end.

After a bit of TLC and a fresh set of strings, my Gretsch is looking and sounding amazing. I've brought it along for the students to try during today's lessons.
A little blues warm up before yesterday's lessons.
During one of today's guitar lessons, we had a look at 'Open D' tuning. This type of tuning is very handy for using with a slide.
Here's a behind the scenes video of how I prepare for Saturday guitar lessons.
The process starts on a Thursday morning by writing out my 'To Do' list of songs and exercises for each student based on their current abilities and musical interests. I then look up the songs on Ultimate Guitar to find the chords. Following this, I play the songs against the original recordings to see if the chords are accurate. I will then write out the lyrics and chords by hand and print off a copy for the student.
On Saturday morning, I arrive in Cupar around 45 minutes before the first lesson. This gives me time to get the room set up, tune the guitars and have one final practice.
I've not made a tutorial video for a long time so here's how to play 'Rolling In The Deep' by Adele. This song uses a capo on the 3rd fret and the chords A minor, E minor, G, F and E7.
I'm currently fully booked for in person lessons but I do have availability for online lessons. If you're interested, please get in touch. Thanks.
Just back home from the final lessons of 2025 and what a year it's been. I'd like to thank everyone for coming along and putting in lots of practice on the guitar and ukulele. It's been great seeing the progress you've all made. I would also like to thank Lynsey Donaldson Holistic Health & Wellbeing Studio for providing such a lovely space to hold the lessons. All the best for 2026!

*****UPDATE*****
Apologies for being quiet on here. I'd like to give an update on a few things. Firstly, I am at capacity for in-person one to one guitar and ukulele lessons on Saturdays. If you are interested in starting in-person lessons, let me know and I can add your name to the list for when a slot becomes available.
Secondly, I am now offering online lessons for guitar and ukulele. Spaces are limited so get in touch to secure your place.
I also have more short tutorial videos on the way and other types of guitar and ukulele content.
Thanks for your support,
David
This is how to play 'Candy' by Paolo Nutini using the chords - A minor, E minor, G major and D7.
