Glenfarg Folk Club

10th March 2025 saw the first visit of Malcolm McWatt to the Glenfarg Folk Club. Before he had finished his performance that night, we knew that we wanted to get him back.

Originally from Elgin and now living in London he says, ”Sometimes I feel like a modern-day gypsy with my time and thoughts flipping between Scotland and London. Both are home. Neither are home.” That feeling is reflected in many of his skilfully crafted songs. Add to that a touch of Americana, and you get a singer songwriter with a very distinct sound.

He delighted the Glenfarg audience on his first visit and we are delighted to welcome him back.

This Monday 10th August....

Steve Turner is known as a pioneer of highly sophisticated English concertina song accompaniments, stretching the boundaries of traditional forms, with one of the best voices in the business. He is a multi-instrumentalist, who also plays mandolin and tenor banjo.

Steve began his career on the Manchester, UK folk scene at the end of the ‘60s, with the Geordie band “Canny Fettle”, touring with them for 8 years and making 2 albums with them.

In 1979 he won the UK Melody Maker’s national “Stars of the 80s” competition, which persuaded him to turn professional, and for the next 12 years he toured solo, nationally and internationally, releasing 4 albums with Fellside Records during this period (Out Stack, Jigging One Now, Eclogue and Braiding).

After 13 years away from the folk scene, he made a welcome return in 2004 performing in folk clubs and festivals, and in 2008 produced his 5th album, the highly acclaimed "Whirligig of Time" which featured UK luminaries Martin Carthy, Nancy Kerr and Miranda Sykes.
Since then he has released a further 5 albums, Rim of the Wheel, Spirit of the Game, Late Cut, Curious Times, with his current 10th album A Host of Furious Fancies, released in January 2026.
He continues to perform at folk festivals and folk clubs across the UK and abroad.

Coming up on Monday 3rd August we have one of our popular Chorus Singarounds. It is an evening where you can join in with every song, and if you are the singer, everyone will join in with you. You can sing any song you like but pick one with a chorus. There is no pressure to sing if you don’t want to. Joinyinners and listeners are always welcome.

Right, we promised we would confirm our Monday Night!
So it's a SINGAROUND with the theme of PLANTS & TREES.
But only if you can think of songs about them?....otherwise you can sing what you want.
Perhaps a POLITICAL SONG maybe? -
After all, vegetables are plants!

THE BOTHY BALADEERS

A night when you need to don your nicky-tams and galluses in preparation for a braw nicht o’ bothy ballads and banter. Fresh frae muckin’ oot the byre and chappin’ the neeps, we welcome a great line up of Bothy Balladeers in the form of Allan Taylor, Geordie Murison and Paddy Buchanan. All three of them, winners of the prestigious and hugely popular ‘Champions of Champions’ Bothy Ballad Competition held annually in Elgin.
