๐ŸŒฑ Looking for community connections and volunteering opportunities ๐ŸŒฑ

Iโ€™m looking to connect with local organisations, charities, care homes, support services, community groups and other organisations who may be able to offer a volunteering opportunity for a group of 4 young people.

The young people are supported by myself, a member of teaching staff, and we are hoping to find somewhere they could attend for around 1โ€“1.5 hours every Monday.

This is part of an intervention designed to give the young people meaningful experiences within their community. The aim is to help them build confidence, independence, communication and social skills, develop practical experience and, importantly, feel that they are making a positive contribution to the people and places around them.

We are open to all sorts of possibilities โ€” spending time supporting residents in a care home, helping within a charity or community group, assisting with activities, gardening, organising or sorting, hospitality, animal care, supporting a local project or anything else where their time and enthusiasm could be useful.

I would be there with the young people throughout, providing support and guidance. We are hoping to find something that could become a positive, regular part of their week and allow them to build relationships and a sense of belonging within the wider community.

If you are involved with an organisation that might be able to offer something, or know of somewhere that could be a good fit, please get in touch.

๐Ÿ“ž You can contact Cumbernauld Academy on the school number and ask for Francesca Course.

Please feel free to share this post with anyone who may be able to help. We would be incredibly grateful for any suggestions, introductions or opportunities. โค๏ธ

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if your children get the bus to school and they have to cross the road or if they walk and have to cross the road can you please make sure they use either the bridge of the underpass. The school is only back 2 days and I have seen what looks like 1st years running across the main road in between cars, stopping in the middle of the road and then this morning I seen a young girl walking along the main road ready to cross. This is so dangerous and someone is going to get knocked down and serious hurt and it will be the driver who will feel terrible and everyone will blame the driver. I ask all parents to tell their children to NOT cross the road it is NOT SAFE.

Please share this thankyou - Parent Council Chair

I would just like to share an email which I have just received from the school about the Alton Towers Trip which was yesterday and my daughter attended, this has actually brought a lump to my throat.

The values and manners which are taught not only by families at home but also the school has certainly shone through yesterday, my daughter did tell me about the other school children in the service station.

Well done to all the young people and thank you to the teachers for taken them. I know my daughter and her friends had "the best day" as they say.

Dear Parents and Carers

I would like to extend a huge thank you and well done to all of our S5 and S6 pupils who attended yesterday's trip to Alton Towers.
Despite a very early 2:00am departure and a late return home at 11:30pm, the young people were in great spirits throughout the entire day and were an absolute credit to themselves, their families and the school.

The extreme heat could easily have made the day more challenging, but our pupils looked after themselves and each other exceptionally well. They met at the agreed times, kept themselves well protected with sun cream, stayed hydrated, and showed a great deal of maturity and responsibility throughout the trip.
There was plenty of good-natured banter on the bus, and the bus driver commented on how well-behaved and respectful our pupils were during the journey.

What stood out even more was their conduct on the way home when we stopped at a very busy service station. While many people were trying to access the facilities and food outlets, our pupils queued patiently, respected others and behaved impeccably. In contrast, another school at the service station was causing considerable disruption by pushing into queues and showing little regard for others. It was particularly pleasing to see that our pupils required no reminders or intervention from staffโ€”they simply conducted themselves in the way we know they can, demonstrating the values and standards we expect.

Trips such as these are only possible when young people can be trusted to represent the school positively, and yesterday's group did exactly that. They were a pleasure to spend the day with, and every member of staff was incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves.

Thank you for your continued support, and please pass on our congratulations to your young person.
Kind regards

Ms Steggles

!!! NEWSFLASH !!!

The Parent Council and Mr Cairns, supported by an introduction from Adam Councillor Adam Smith - Cumbernauld East, have worked over recent months with Canavan Travel to establish a dedicated school bus service.

This service will operate at the start and end of the school day, Monday to Thursday, and at 12:30pm on Fridays. The route will run from Tesco Craigmarloch through Carrickstone, along and up St Andrews Drive, then via Cumbernauld Village to the high school.
The service will be free of charge for pupils who hold a valid Young Scot card. It will commence on the first day of the new school term in August.

This provision is intended for high school pupils, and assurances have been given that no child will be left waiting at a bus stop due to capacity issues.

Parents of current P7 pupils at Cumbernauld Primary are asked to share this information to ensure awareness.

Further details, including timetable information, will be confirmed nearer the start date. Mr Cairns will also include this update in his newsletter later this week.
