Mind blown ! 🤯 How did I not know this ?!!

It’s not every day you learn a new way to look at calculations that can be a complete game changer for yourself and your students .

Did you know you could do this??

Maths is all about spotting patterns ! Sometimes we get so immersed in the processes and methods memorised that we forget to look into the ‘ why’ .

You can’t be a good teacher unless you love learning ! ❤️

Today I’m sharing one of my lovely testimonials from a parent of a student I tutored last year. D started our lessons after not achieving his ideal grades in his mocks and we worked together over the course of the year identifying his gaps and working on exam structure. I loved hearing how his confidence grew and I’m so proud of his dedication to improving. He didn’t let any mental blocks/negative thoughts get in the way. He worked hard , he worked smart and he came out of it confident with his mathematical ability.
A great example of someone that regardless of what grade he ended the year knowing he gave it his all.

My daughter started her school journey today. It was emotional to say the least .
As a teacher, I’m excited and nervous for her. Will she make friends ? Will she enjoy school? Will she struggle to adapt ? Will she enjoy maths ? 😆
It got me thinking about how I would help her if she was like so many of my students who struggle with exam nerves, anxiety , confidence , self belief and the thoughts she might have . How could I help her like I’ve helped 100s of students along their GCSE Maths journey.
Mental clarity and self talk are so important in navigating this somewhat ‘stressful’ year .

That’s why I am giving away my 12 week success plan to any student that would benefit .

Getting a Grade 7–9 in GCSE Maths isn’t just about doing more questions.

It’s about knowing what to practise, why you’re getting questions wrong, and how to turn that into progress.

That’s exactly why I’ve designed my GCSE Maths group differently.

The weekly live lesson is only one part of it.

My students also get access to my Achieving Excellence programme — with targeted teaching, exam-style questions, quizzes and resources they can return to throughout the year.

So if something doesn’t quite click in a lesson… they don’t have to simply move on and hope for the best.

They have somewhere to go back, revisit it and build that understanding properly.

My aim with Project Excellence is to give ambitious GCSE students the structure and support they need to become genuinely confident mathematicians — not just get them through another weekly tuition lesson.

A little introduction (or re-introduction) to the person behind The Female Maths Tutor 👋🏼

Yes, I’m a Maths teacher.
Yes, I genuinely love Maths.
And yes… I once got 100% in an A Level Maths exam. 😂

But I’m also someone who can completely overthink splitting a restaurant bill in my head, loves a good Sudoku and will happily switch my brain off with a ridiculously cheesy Netflix series.

And I think that’s partly why I love teaching so much.

Over the years, I’ve realised that being good at Maths isn’t about being the quickest person in the room or being able to instantly calculate everything in your head.

It’s about learning how to think.
Knowing what to do when you don’t immediately know the answer.
Being willing to get something wrong.
And having the confidence to keep going when a question looks completely unfamiliar.

That’s what I want my students to learn.

It’s one of the reasons I created Project Excellence.

A small online GCSE Higher Maths group where I can teach properly, get to know my students and help them work towards those top grades — without creating even more pressure around their GCSEs.

And alongside our live lessons, students get access to my Achieving Excellence programme, where we go beyond simply learning more Maths and look at how to revise, how to approach difficult questions, exam technique, study habits and becoming a more confident, independent learner.

Because achieving excellence isn’t about studying every hour of the day.

It’s about learning to study well. 🤍

Your child doesn’t necessarily need more Maths tuition.

They may need more structure around the Maths they’re already doing.

If they’re capable of achieving a Grade 7–9 but their results don’t consistently reflect their ability, Project Excellence was created for them.

Project Excellence combines my weekly live, small-group GCSE Higher Maths tuition with full access to my Achieving Excellence programme.

That means their support doesn’t end when our live lesson finishes.

Between lessons, students can access focused teaching on important and challenging Higher GCSE topics, prerequisite learning to help identify and fill gaps, quizzes and practice, exam strategy, structured revision support and opportunities for personalised feedback.

So when a student realises on a Thursday evening that they’ve forgotten how to approach a particular topic, they don’t necessarily have to wait until our next lesson.

They have somewhere to go.

And our valuable live lesson time can be used for what I believe matters most: challenging their thinking, tackling harder problems, developing exam technique and addressing the areas where they need my support.

If I could give every student starting Year 11 one piece of advice, it would be this…

Doing more maths isn’t always the answer. Doing the right maths is. 🤍

Over the years, I’ve seen so many bright, capable students work incredibly hard but still feel stuck.

They revise.
They watch videos.
They complete question after question.

But they’re often practising what they already know — rather than learning what to do when a question makes them think:

“I know what topic this is and I know the skills needed… I just don’t know where to start.”

And honestly, that’s the bit I love teaching.

How to think.
How to spot connections.
How to break an intimidating question down.
How to understand why you lost marks — rather than calling everything a “silly mistake”.

It’s a huge part of what I want students to learn inside my Achieving Excellence programme and my small GCSE Higher group starting this September.

Not endless worksheets.

Not pressure to be perfect.

Just really good maths, challenging questions, better study habits and the confidence to think independently. ✨
