Our children went home with some beautiful artwork this week, created when we were visited by the talented Andrea Hayes Textile Artist. The results they achieved under her guidance were beautiful!

A note from Mrs Meekin:

Today is National Thank a Teacher Day, and it seems like a great time for Mrs Meekin to thank the wonderful team in Straidhavern. Whether teaching or non-teaching, every member of our team show such care and dedication to the children we have the privilege to call ‘ours’.

Sadly missing Miss Sefton and Mrs Nicholson from this picture (taken during our recent celebration event), who are also incredible members of our team.

Thank you to all of the team for all you do each day. As Principal, I consider myself extremely privileged to be surrounded by such a dedicated staff.

Please note, as well as new applicants, parents/carers of children who are currently in receipt of Free School Meals and Uniform Allowance will need to apply again for the 2025/26 school year.

Happening today!

🌞 Loanends Summer Fete — You're Invited! 🌻

Community is something we all long for a place to belong, be known, and be supported. In today’s busy world, that can be harder to come by. That’s why we’re so glad to open our doors and welcome you to our Summer Fete at Loanends Presbyterian Church.

It’s more than just a fun afternoon (though there’ll be plenty of that!):
🎟️ Stalls, treats, games for all ages
☕ Tea and traybakes
🎈Laughter, conversation, and new connections

We believe that moments like these give us a glimpse of what true community looks like when neighbours gather, children play, and people feel seen and valued.

As a church, we talk often about being a family, not just on Sundays, but throughout the week. That comes from our faith in Jesus Christ, who teaches us to love our neighbour and walk with each other through every season of life.

You might be someone who hasn’t been near a church in years, or someone who’s full of questions. You’re welcome here- to listen, to ask, to reflect. Whether today is your first visit or you’ve been many times before, we hope you’ve felt something of the warmth and care we try to live out.

It was lovely to have so many former and current pupils, staff and governors along to join us this evening as we continue to celebrate the wonderful school we are and have been so privileged to call our own.

We always knew it, but now it’s official! 🥳

Our wonderful Mrs Hunter is officially the BEST PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR!

Sinead from Brainbox NI was able to share that she was blown away with the many submissions she read, outlining the ways in which Mrs Hunter is so very incredible.

This huge accolade from the awards is so well deserved, and I know that everyone will want to join in congratulating her on being recognised for the incredible lady she is.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we are finalists in the 2025 Local Women NI Education Awards, for both best Primary School in County Antrim and also for our very own Mrs Hunter as Best Teacher!

These awards celebrate those in education who inspire, lead, and make a lasting impact both in the classroom and beyond.

Wishing all finalists the best of luck this evening.

This evening saw the last of our Wellness Workshops take place with the wonderful Shal from Seven Mile Studio. Huge thanks to Shal for providing our parents and friends with a wonderful end to their week, we hope that everyone goes into the bank holiday weekend feeling relaxed as a result!

We absolutely love the rainbow-inspired birdhouse which was created by one of the little ladies who attended the childcare session this evening. What a delight it has been to share evenings together.
