Huge congratulations to our incredible Army section who absolutely crushed it at the HQ LONDIST CADSAAM 26 competition! Winners of Match 2 and the overall competition runners up - what an achievement, especially considering it's been over 10 years since we've been in a shooting competition (and yes, we're a little biased)!

Over February Half Term, cadets from our Army & RAF Sections stepped aboard the Fleet Flagship, HMS Prince of Wales, during an exclusive guided tour while she was alongside at HMNB Portsmouth.
The adventure didn’t stop there — we also walked the historic decks of HMS Victory, soaking up centuries of Royal Navy history.

The RRS CCF Army Section held its annual Summer Camp at Brunswick, where cadets took part in a full week of training, visits, and adventure designed to develop both military skills and personal confidence.
The camp began with the usual camp briefing from Captain Quick where the week’s events were explained. After concluding the briefing, cadets received their kit and settled into billets getting a good nights rest ahead of an action packed week.
The training programme opened with a day on the ranges at Pirbright, where cadets developed their marksmanship and weapon-handling skills. This was followed by a visit to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where cadets were given a unique insight into the training of future Army officers. The experience continued with physical challenges, including an obstacle course at Frimley Park that tested endurance and teamwork, and a visit to the Royal Artillery at Thorney Island, where cadets learned more about the regiment’s capabilities.
The central event of the camp was a two-day field training exercise in Aldershot. Here, cadets deployed with weapons and rations, carried out tactical exercises, and lived in field conditions. The exercise demanded teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience, and gave cadets a realistic taste of operating in the field. On returning to camp, cadets cleaned and returned their rifles, completing the cycle of training.
Alongside military activities, the programme included adventure training at Horseshoe Lake Activity Centre. This provided cadets with opportunities to push their personal limits in a different environment and build confidence through challenging but enjoyable activities. Evenings offered time to relax and recover, with highlights such as a film and pizza night that encouraged camaraderie and balance alongside the structured training.
Overall, the RRS CCF Summer Camp 2025 was a great success. Cadets experienced a demanding but rewarding programme that blended military training, leadership opportunities, adventure, and teamwork. They returned more confident, resilient, and better prepared for future challenges within the CCF.
